Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8th of September’1926 in Sadiya, Assam. He left this worldly place on 5th of November 2011.
Bhupen Hazarika needs no introduction to music lovers all over the world. Known as the ‘Bard of the Brahmaputra’ he wrote over eight hundred songs in Assamese. His love for his mother tongue and his culture, particularly the folklore of Assam, can be experienced in his poetry, lyrics, compositions and parables that speak of the socio-political and other general folk landscape of Assam. As a music composer he used the folk music with a touch of contemporary.

He was the highest paid painter of India. It is said that the great artists have their own muse which motivate them to excel in their chosen form of arts. Recently, I came across an audio clip of a song from ‘Mil Gayee Manzil Mujhe’ (1998), a film directed by Lekh Tandon. Online resources shows that the film was completed in 1997 but remained unreleased. The audio album of the songs was released in January 1998. I got confused as there was another film in the same title with Mithun Chakraborty and Moon Moon Sen in lead roles which was released in 1989. Things got somewhat cleared when I came across an interview of Milind Gunaji, one of the main actors of the film, which appeared on rediff.com on January 9, 1998. He said that after the completion of about 70 percent of the shooting, Lekh Tandon left the film. However, after some time, he was persuaded to complete the film which he did in December 1997. Still the film did not get released.

Hindi songs in Bangla Films: 26
—————————————-
Mumbai has been the leading Hindi film production centre in India ever since Dadasaheb Phalke produced the first silent film ‘Raja Harishchandra’ in 1913. After the release of India’s first talkie ‘Alam Ara’ in 1931, many more film production companies were set up in Mumbai, some of them owning the studios. The outdoor shootings, if any, in the initial stages of talkie films were done mostly in around Mumbai. It was quite natural that stories of some Hindi films would have Mumbai as the background portraying the many facets of the city. Obviously, in such films, there would be scenes from Mumbai and possibly one ‘Bombay-centric’ song.
