Today 5th November is the eighth remembrance anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika (8 September 1926 – 5 November 2011). I am not adding any adjectives before his name because they will not do justice to describe the ‘personality’ he was, the monumental work he has done, the legacy he has left behind, and finally the ‘human for humanity’ he was.

Today (8 september 2019) is the birth anniversary of Bhupen Hazarika (8 September 1926 – 5 November 2011).

It is appropriate that we honour him in the blog with a song. Lyrics of the song (sent by Avinash Scrapwala) is there with me. When I listened to the song, I wanted to listen to the original Assamese song. That opened a Pandora’s box. I discovered such a goldmine of information about Bhupen Hazarika, Assam, Assamese culture and History etc that it became a case of information overload for me. Now I have so much information to discuss that I do not known where to begin.

It has been exactly ‘a year and a week’ now, since I received (on 12.02.2015) my first HFGK copy for the Volume –V of HFGK i.e. for the films during the decade of 1971 to 1980.

With each passing day, whenever I glance through its pages, I am reminded of the huge task still to be accomplished to get the balance songs of this period to the blog.

Following the passing away of Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar recently on 11 Dec 2012, his phenomenally gifted first wife Annapurna Devi and his talented daughter Anoushka came under renewed focus. His eldest brother Padma Vibhushan Late Uday Shankar, an acclaimed dancer and choreographer of his day, was also very much in the mention.

Bhupen Hazaarika, the sound and the soul of culture of the east, is now silent, forever. A stalwart of many talents who would be honored by audiences and critics in many countries, a multi faceted personality who was single handedly responsible for breathing life into the endeavors of Assamese cinema, bringing international recognition to the age old music and culture of far eastern India.
