“Jeewan Naatak”(1935) was produced by Debki Bose. The movie had Durga Khote, P Jairaj, Rmpyaari, Lovji Lawangiya, Alaknanda, shivrani, Mubarak, maruti rao Pahalwan, Nirma Bannerji, nandkishore, Dar Kashmiri etc in it.

Today (22 september 2014) is the 23rd death anniversary of Durga Khote (14 January 1905-22 September 1991). Though she began playing the roles of leading lady in the beginning of her career, she soon began to get the roles of mother to several generations of actors.

This post is coming after a break of almost 10 days or so. It was not a ‘Commercial Break’, but was a ‘Duty break’ ! We like to engage ourselves in the olden times, but the newer generation wants to enjoy Today’s life Today…or even earlier, if possible. Everyone seems to be in a hurry these days. I had to bow down to family pressures and go on a trip, down to KERALA. Of course it did a lot of good to me. Away from the Computer, FB and the Whatsapp, the days were spent in the company of family members, in ” The God’s Own Country”-Kerala. It did refresh me to the extent that after a gap of almost 60 years, I tried swimming again. To my own surprise, I could swim comfortably and the family heaved a sigh of relief ! All of them were unitedly against my determination of swimming with grandchildren ” at THIS age ” !!!. (My swimming Video is posted on my FB page).

Today (22 september) is the death anniversary of Durga Khote (14 january 1905 -22 september 1991). Many younger day movie watchers may associate her with mother and grandmother roles, but she was one of the earliest leading lady of Hindi movies and one of those who paved the entry of women from respectable background to Hindi movies.

Praying to the Almighty to take care of one’s problems is an old practice in Hindi movies dating back to 1940s. Which was the first movie where a lady was shown singing a prayer in front of a God’s idol in Hindi movies ? Perhaps the knowledgeable readers may have some idea.
