Yesterday (26th June) there was a discussion on the ‘Atulites Whatsapp group’ regarding songs containing the word ‘June’ in them. I thought that some of us would definitely point out this song – how can seventies’ fans miss this. So, our beloved Raja ji pointed out this song and reminding it that it was quite a popular song in those days. I must be 2/3 years old then, so I can’t say much about this 🙂 but, after listening this song now, I can say that it’s tune is quite nice and enjoyable and one can easily be humming this song after listening to it once.

I had come across this song few months back during my routine browsing, and since the starting of this month – ‘June’, I wanted to share the song during this month. I was thinking of sharing this song, but as the month progressed it was very hectic on work front for me and it slipped out of mind. But nevertheless, since yesterday’s discussion I thought we still have few days in this month of June and can enjoy this song.

ASAD 10th Anniversary Celebrations – 15
———————————————————————

It has been a while since my last post here – and I have no excuses for this. I will not cite “been busy” as an excuse, because, if I’m honest, I could certainly have found time for a post. If anything, the only reason for not posting is my sheer laziness. And laziness is never, and should never be, an acceptable excuse. So, no excuses. Mea culpa.

One thing though. While I might not be posting frequently, this blog is never far from my heart. It might not be apparent from my recent (non-existent) interactions but this is fact. Whether I post here or not, this blog is very special to me. After all, I have been involved with it from day one. So I request everyone to please excuse my prolonged absence. (Some might consider it not such a bad thing. 🙂 )

Forgotten Melodies of the 1940s – 31
———————————————————
JAWAAB (1942) was produced under the banner of M P Productions and it was directed by P C Barua who was also the lead actor in the movie alongwith Kanan Devi and Jamuna. The box office success of this film was very important for him as he has turned producer under his newly created production company, M P Productions after leaving New Theatres in 1940. His first two films ‘Uttarayan’ and ‘Rani’ under his own banner were financial disasters. But the success of ‘Shesh Uttar (in Bengali) and its Hindi version ‘Jawaab’ (1942) silenced his critics who were predicting slow and sure downfall for him from his earlier success of ‘Devdas’ (1935) and ‘Mukti’ (1937).

GEMS FROM THE MIGRATORS…..song no.10…LAST SONG OF THE SERIES.
——————————————————————-

After Partition in 1947, it did not take long for things to become normal in the Indian film industry. This was mainly because ready replacements were available in plenty to fill the vacancies caused by migration. As far as producers and financers were concerned, almost all producers and film makers had arrived here from Lahore. It was actually Lahore which felt the absence of Film makers. Pakistan film Industry was somehow managed well by the experienced people who went from India and Pakistan enjoyed a ” GOLDEN AGE OF FILMS AND MUSIC ” from 1959 to 1977. Once the old generation retired, there was no second line to take over from them.

GEMS FROM THE MIGRATORS…….song no. 8
———————————————

After Partition, there was a rush to migrate to Pakistan and artists continued to shift there from 47 to almost 1950. Some artistes like Noorjehan left immediately. There were few cases where some people borrowed money from friends and then left the country quietly, leaving the money lender high and dry. By about 49-50, almost everything was settled on both sides. The conditions in Lahore and Karachi had stabilised considerably for film making and lots of opportunities existed for film artistes there by mid 50s. That led to a second wave of migration to Pakistan at that time. Those who had continued in India completed their assignments here and went to Pakistan.
