Pancham’s Music – Eighties-to-Nineties (1981-1994…) Duets-8

This duet composition by Rahul Dev Burman is from the 1990 movie ‘Dushman’. This title “Dushman” was also released in the years 1939, 1957, 1971 and 1998. All these four movies are already represented in the blog. “Dushman”(1990) came 19 years after “Dushman “(1971). Among all “Dushman” ( 🙂 ) I guess that the movie released in 1971 starring Rajesh Khanna in the title role (Dushman chaachaa 🙂 ) must be the most popular and successful of all these movies.

“Dushman”(1990) was directed by Shakti Samanta for ‘Shakti Films, Bombay’ i.e. his home productions. The cast of this movie has Mithoon Chakravarty, Mandakini, Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Alok Nath, Deepa Sahi, Tanuja, Biplab Chatterjee, Vijay Arora, Ranjeet, Tarun Ghosh, Manek Dutt, Bob Christo, Ravi Nandi, Shakti Thakur, Anirudh Agarwal and others. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 12.03.1990.

Pancham’s Music – Eighties-to-Nineties (1981-1994…) Duets-6

Today’s duet song which is composed by Rahul Dev Burman, fondly known as Pancham, is from the movie ‘Mil Gayee Manzil Mujhe-1988’. I have not watched this movie but when I browsed the list of its songs and listened to a few of them, this duet song sounded familiar to me.

This movie ‘Mil Gayee Manzil Mujhe-1988’ was directed by Moeen Amjad for ‘Chetna Movies’. Shantilal J Sopariwala was the producer of this movie. The presenter of this movie was ‘Chetna Zarda & Co’ and in the title of this movie (in the version available on internet this credit for the presenter comes up with a picture of the container of its product i.e. ‘Zarda’ and printed on it is ‘Chetna Zafrani Zarda 131 flavored chewing tobacco’. 🙂

Those days movies showing tobacco products were not required to carry the statutary warning about the health hazards of these products that are mandatory now a days. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 05.12.1988.

The cast of ‘Mil Gayee Manzil Mujhe-1988’ included Mithun Chakravarty, Moon Moon Sen(as spelled in the titles of the movie), Shakti Kapoor, Girish Karnad, Kalpana Iyer, with Shobha, and Amrish Puri. Shubha Khote, Om Shivpuri, and Viju Khote had guest appearances in this movie while this movie introduced actor Manoj Verma. They were supported by Jalal Agha, Urmila Bhatt, Alka Nupur, Shantilal Suratwala, Monal Kriplani, Bhiku Verma, Tinu Verma, Kishan Thapa, Ranveer Raj, Kartik Dutt, Vasant Patel, and Jullien. Story and screenplay for this movie was written by Sachin Bhowmick and its dialogues were written by Akhtar-Ul-Iman. Editing of this movie is done by Anant Apte.

Playback singers for this movie are Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Kishore Kumar, and Shailendra Singh. This movie has six songs written by Anand Bakshi which were composed by R.D. Burman.

Rahul Dev Burman, the genius music director was going through a lean phase of his career during this period. Only six movies with his music were released in the year 1988. Here is the list of these movies with their status on this blog.

Today we introduce this movie ‘Mil Gayee Manzil Mujhe-1988’ on the blog with this duet song sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. The song is picturised on Mithun Chakravarty and Moon Moon Sen. The picturisation of this song has taken place in scenic locations of Nepal (it can be deduced from the credits of the movie where various various authorities of Nepal have been thanked for their co operation).

Let us now listen to and enjoy this Pancham composition…

(Celebrating ‘Saawan’-2025-9)

In this post I am presenting a saawan song from a recent movie ‘Jhoothi Shaan-1991’. Though this movie is now thirty-five years old, by the standards of our blog we call it a recent movie. I have neither watched this movie earlier nor remember to have listened to any songs of this movie.

“Jhoothi Shaan-1991” (which I would have otherwise spelled as ‘Jhhoothhee Shaan’:) ) was directed by Ranjan Bose for Prime Movies. Ranjan Bose the director of this movie also wrote the story and screenplay of this movie. Askari Jafri and Sanjay Gulati were the producers for this movie. The cast of this movie has Mithun Chakravarty, Shabana Azmi, Poonam Dhillon, Nadira, Shakti Kapoor, Kanwaljeet, Jagdeep, Pallavi Joshi, Deven Verma, Huma Khan, Sudhir, Satyen Kappu, Ashalata, Manmauji, Tarun Ghosh, Kirti Kumar, Raj Tilak, Raj Kaul, Pratap, Ravi, Pappu, M. Joshi, Amol Sen and others. This movie was passed by the censor board on 13.12.1991.

In this article I am taking up for discussion an obscure film, ‘Rukhsat’ (1988) which I watched online recently. The film was written and directed by Simi Grewal – the only film she directed so far. The cast included Mithun Chakraborty, Anuradha Patel, Marc Zuber, Amrish Puri, Simi Grewal, Pradeep Kumar, Rohini Hattangadi, Tom Alter, Baby Sona Sardesai etc with friendly appearance by Sujit Kumar. The film took about 6 years to complete and get released.

(Happy Birthday Mithun Chakravarty)

‘Taraana-1979’ was directed by Deepak Bahri for Chanda Pictures. It was presented by Rajshri Productions and produced by Tarachand Barjatya. Living upto the reputation of the production house this movie too gives us a clean, musical, family entertainer movie. This is a nice movie having a nice story line of ‘love’ and including sub-plots of ‘lost and found’ story, and ‘wealthy and poor’ conflict to it. The cast of this movie ‘Taraana-1979’ is Ranjeeta, Mithun Chakraborty, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Urmila Bhatt, Jayshree T., Sharat Saxena, and Om Shivpuri. They were supported by Yunus Parvez, Janki Das, Sundar, Bhagwan, Shakeel, Satyabhan Sinha, Naresh, Pardesi, Master Sandeep, Shobha Khote, Mala Jaggi, Uma Khosla, and Jagdeep. The story, screenplay and dialogues of this movie were written by Khalid & Narvi. Editing of this film was done by Mukhtar Ahmed.

A few months back, I stumbled upon a Blog on blogpost.com with a caption, ‘Arjun Hingorani’. This was the only post which was dated March 28, 2010. More or less the similar post appeared on wordpress.com with a caption, ‘Arujunhingorani’s Blog’. The Blog had only one post dated March 29, 2010, introducing himself as producer-director-actor and the spiritual author. His last qualification surprised me. So, I read the entire post in which he wrote about his early life in Jacobabad (Sind) before partition, the difficulties he faced after migration to India, his stint with Hindi film industry and finally turning to his spiritual journey to Vrindavan near Mathura where he spent his last years. I was familiar with his name since his film, ‘Kab? Kyon? Aur Kahaan?’ (1970) was released and about his film titles with ‘KKK’. It was only when I read his Blog post, I felt that he needed to find a place in our Blog.
