“Bedard Zamaanaa Kyaa Jaane” (1959) was a B grade movie starring Ashok Kumar, Nirupa Roy,Sudesh Kumar, Jabeen Jaleel etc. This movie is quite significant from music point of view. It was with this movie that Kalyanji Veerji Shah made his debut as an independent music director. Till then, he was assisting to other senior music directors viz Hemant Kumar etc. After another movie (Madaari), Kalyanji was joined by his younger brother Anandji and they formed the by now legendary musical partnership known as Kalyanji Anandji.

Here is a song that wears many hats. this song is a romantic/love song. In addition, this song is also a jeep song, and also an “elephant” song. Yes, the protagonists of this song, viz Jeetendra and Aparna Sen are expressing their love for each other while driving on a jeep and also while riding an elephant.

Hindi movies have several songs of the genre where the hero has a broken heart aften being betrayed in love. This genre of songs often tend to become repetitive after a while as far as their lyrics are concerned. The phrase “Toota huaa dil” viz “broken heart” often figures mandatorily in these songs.If one has heard one broken heart song, one may have heard them all- that is what often appears to music lovers.

Golden era of Hindi movie music saw a plethora of musical talents that enriched Hindi movie music with their contribution. It is not that only big name artists contributed, even those artists who struggled to get opportunities and who worked in so called B grade movies also contributed their mite. some of them in fact deserved to getmany more assignments than what they finally ended up with.
