Recently I watched GHAR KI IZZAT (1948) on YT. The film was produced under the banner of Murli Movietone and directed by Ram Daryani. The star cast included Dilip Kumar and Mumtaz Shanti in the lead role with Gope, Manorama, Dixit, Jeewan, Gulab, Suleman etc in the supporting roles. The melodramatic story of the film reminded me of some of the Hindi films produced from the South in the 50s and 60s.

“Bharthari” (1944) is a movie that I became aware of when I discovered a wonderful song from this movie and discussed it in this blog. No information of any sort was available on this movie on internet till then. What an endearing song, and what a mellifluous voice. Such a wonderful gem of a song, from the first film for which Hansraj Behl composed the music. The film is ‘Pujari’ from 1946. This was the debut year for Hansraj Behl, and 3 films containing his compositions were released that year. As per records, this film is he first one for which he started composing.

“Chaand Chakori” (1945) is one among many movies about which most sites have no inkling, but they all claim to offer all kinds of information, viz movie review, music review, posters, awards and nominations, wallpapers etc etc, where in reality their relevant page is almost entirely blank.

“Kismat” (1943) has the distinction of being India’s most successful movie at the box office (it ran for three years at one movie hall) before its record was broken by “Sholay” (1975) (it ran for five years in one movie hall). “Kismat” (1943) really must have caught the imagination of the public at that time. And its music definitely played a big role in bringing movie watchers to the movie halls.
