Shakespeare’s plays have been one of the important sources for adapting them in Hindi films since the beginning of the Indian film industry in 1913. However, since very few films produced and released during the silent film era survived, it is difficult to say how many silent films were based on Shakespeare’s plays. A research paper on Shakespeare on Screen by Dr. Joseph Koyippally has identified 8 silent films based on Shakespeare’s plays that were released between 1923-30.

chupke se kho gaya. . .
Searching through his list of songs, I chanced upon this gem of a melodious creation – one of those ‘love at first hear’ type songs that I have really come across after so many days. It has been sitting in my collection forever, and I pulled it today, looking for an unheard or less heard song to include in this post. The composition is quite atypical with a different sound structure attempted. A beautiful melody that I am sure you will also fall in love with.
Remembering C Arjun today, on the anniversary of his passing away (30 April, 1992).

When our dear Atul ji recently started an ‘innovative’ initiative under the ‘ten-year challenge’ or ‘Blog ten-year challenge’ I had mentioned it in my comments on the ‘first song’ in this series that, I would try to share lyrics if not articles as possible in this series. The film, ‘Pyaar Bana Afsaana’ was eventually never released. However the songs were already recorded and released. This song caught the attention of the listening public, and it did become quite a popular memory in the radio listening days.
