It was directed by Satish Nigam and its star cast consisted of names like Shashikala, Agha, Sabita Chatterjee, Randhir, Rehman who hardly held any star appeal to attract ordinary movie goers to the movie halls. The movie Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959) is one of the classic movies of the great producer director Guru Dutt. This is a remarkable watershed movie, about the business of making movies. Guru Dutt plays the role of a director in the film world. In many ways, this movie is an autobiographical essay by Guru Dutt about his own life and its tribulations, down to his supposed attraction for Waheeda Rehman, and how it disturbed his personal family life with Geeta Dutt.
