I have been mentioning in my earlier write-ups that even though we are regularly adding songs from the yesteryear on the blog, there are still many hidden gems that need to be brought here on the blog. When one comes across such gems, one is surprised why such songs or such movies were still left unrepresented. We still have a vast treasure-trove that is yet to be un-earthed.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Swaami Vivekanand-1955’.

The song being presented in this post is from the ‘Bhojpuri’ film titled ‘Laagi Nahin Chhoote Raam-1963’.

I got to listen to this song on ‘Vividh Bharati’ more than a month or two back. I fell in love with this song immediately. I do not remember to have listened to this song earlier. This song is a lovely duet song sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Talat Mahmood.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Shaayar-e-Kashmir Mahjoor’.

I had never read or heard about this movie earlier till I become aware of this in HFGK Vol-V (1971-1980). It seems to be an obscure movie and very less information about it is available so far. Luckily though few of its songs have been uploaded by music lovers and I sincerely express my gratitude towards them.

This post is coming two days late. Talat Sb’s anniversary of passing away was two days ago (9th May). In preparation and delayed, this post remembers Talat Sb, the velvet voiced wonder who is one of the mainstays of the fond memories of the golden age of Hindi film  music – an era when melody was the queen.

A rare and opportune gathering of talented stars, singers, music makers and writers once came together at the coordinates of a place called Bombay (now Mumbai).  Fortune has a timing of its own, and blessed are those who witnessed this gathering, and also those who continue to enjoy their creations and their histrionics. An august assembly that pulled together in 1940s, it continued gathering momentum along with the fervor of the newly independent India.

I have stumbled upon some very melodious and wonderful songs in recent weeks and months. I am saving all the links for various series in various folders, but don’t seem to get around to writing the posts. But my speed has reduced since I started using my new HP laptop, which is a gaming one. I had to go for this as I wanted 1 TB data with SSD, whatever that means. I am told that SSD is for higher speed. This was the only model available, without touch screen. So the games and other binge watching tendencies are hampering my blog output.

Geeta Dutt – Solos and duets (02)
————————————–————————————–

Among Geeta Dutt’s endearing songs, there are innumerable duets. Maximum no. of her duets is bound to be with Mohammed Rafi sahab, for the obvious reason that at the times she was most active, coincides with the period when various music directors were having all male songs sung by Rafi sahab. So there are films where Rafi sahab has duets with Lata, Asha and Geeta, plus solos by all of them, with a female duet also thrown it. This would be a typical late 50’s music score. Sometimes a female singer or two are changed and Shamshad Begum is there, with one solo and/or duet.

The year that was … “2020” … we have finally come to the end of ‘Year 2020’ which has shaken the whole world and while people are trying to come to normal, the pandemics’ ‘aftershocks’ and its ‘new improved stains’ are still threatening to harm the humanity further.

Today’s song is from film Pagle-1950.

1950 was the last year of the second decade of Talkie cinema. The effects of Partition had started showing effects. Entry of actors, directors and composers from Bengal – due to the crumbling of New Theatres – entry of newer artistes to replace the migrators and the changing tastes of the Indian people was being reflected in the films made in this year. The migration of artistes-both ways-continued with force till about the early 50s and slowed down in the early 60s, where finally it was stopped in 1965 by Pakistan rulers.
