When I was growing up as a kid, I loved listening to songs that had names of places in them. To my mind, if the name of a place figured in a song, then that song had “arrived”. The name of Bombay figured in several songs naturally and I envied the people living in that Metropolital city.

“Pyaar ki Jeet” (1948) is a movie which had actors like Rehman ,Suraiyya,Gope,Manmohan ,Niranjan Sharma etc in it. Raj Mehra made his debut with this movie. This movie was produced by Famous pictures and it was directed by O P Dutta.

In the days before the 1930s, the theatre was the more powerful media for entertainment and creativity, more so than the silent movies. The Parsi theatre found its roots in India, during the 1850s, and grew in popularity and influence over the subsequent decades, The early decades of 1900s saw the growth of the Parsi theatre (or Parsi Thiyetar, as it was known in those times) in Bombay. Many stalwarts that we see in the vintage classic movies of 30s and 40s, got their feet wet on the stage productions of Parsi theatre.

Aajaa nigaahon mein aajaa

I have posted four songs from “Dahej” (1950) and I thought I had covered all the songs that are available. While posting those songs, I had not realised that all these songs were sung by female singers. As many as four female singers had sung in these songs. The heroine Jayshee in fact has sung her own songs in this movie.
