Bhupen Hazarika (DOB 8 september 1926) died yesterday (5th november 2011) at the age of 85. A well known name in Hindi movie world for his contributions, he was a legendary figure in Assam. He sang his first movie song at the age of 12 in an Assamese movie which was only the second Assamese movie to be produced. He was a multi skilled artist who has been associated with movies as playbacksinger,lyricist, music director, Producer, writer as well as actor.

Manoj Kumar’s career as a film actor and producer was looking down and out when “Shaheed” (1965) came as a respite. And with his next venture “Upkaar” (1967), Manoj Kumar hit the jackpot and he never looked back since.

I have discussed as many as eight songs from “Bilwamangal” (1954) already in the blog. Majority of songs of this movie were sung by C H Atma and Suraiyya, who played the lead roles in this movie.

Sajjad Hussain, described as the only original music director of Hindi movie had a chequered career and during his three decades long career he only worked in 17 movies and composed about 100 songs. I would dearly love to discuss all the songs that Sajjad Hussain composed. I have so far discussed as many as 66 of his compositions.

“Prabhu Ki Maaya” (1955) is a movie produced by Filmistan and directed by Vithaldas Panchotiya. This movie had Mubarak, Kanta, Jharna, Prem Adeeb, Narmada Shanker, Uma Devi, Mumtaz Begum, P. Kailash etc in it.

What is the most popular drink in India ? Tea, or ‘Chai”, as they call it in Hindi and many other Indian and foreign languages. If you visit and Indian household or office, you are likely to be served “chai”. When you go to a railway station, then the most ubiquitous vwndor you may come across is the itinerant teaseller one who sells his goods while carring a kettle of tea and shouting “Chai, garam chai” in his characteristic manner which has remnained unchanged over several generations.

The movie was directed by directed by Akhtar Hussain. this movie had Nargis and trilok Kapoor in lead roles, with Nazir, Rashid, Neelam Kothari, Maruti, Nissar, Khurshid, H. Prakash, Cuckoo etc also figuring in the cast.

There are occasions when a couple may have strained relations and they may not be on talking terms with each other. But they are required to put up a facade of normalcy in front of their acquaintances. This song is a lovely picturisation of that nature. It is a get together party and the friends of Rajendra Kumar want Jamuna to sing a song. Rajendra Kumar, who otherwise would not speak to her, is contrained to request her to sing a song. Jamuna, with a heavy heart, is forced to sing this song.
