Greetings all friends and visitors to this blog, on the 65th anniversary of independence of our nation. Happy Independence Day.
In the years before 1947, the film censorship was of course in the hands of the foreign British rulers. The seeds of the sentiments and passions for being free of an oppressive foreign rule had been well laid during the 1857 uprising. It was the first major cry for a free nation, and over a period of almost a century after that, this sentiment was kept alive by many an activists, writers, poets and social leaders.

It is often remarked that the current generation i. e. my generation is devoid of any patriotic feeling or love for the country. We have no sense of societal obligations or awareness about how we have acheieved the freedom enjoyed by us or know nothing about the greatness of the country. This is not true though. We do love India. We do know the things that make it India. However we are also acutely aware of all that doesn’t make us proud of it.

“Bandini” (1963) was a movie based on pre independence days when Indian was still under British occupation. “Bandini” (1963) is the story of Nutan who is serving jail sentence in a jail. The jail also has a freedom fighter who is to be hanged. This song is sung by the freedom fighter as he is being led to the gallows.

The main function on this day is held in New Delhi at the Red Fort (Laal Qila) from where the Prime Minister addresses the nation. The eyes of the nation are glued to New Delhi on the occasion through TV, Radio, etc.
