Gulzar’s third film, as a director, Parichay (1972) has often been accused of being a copy of The Sound of Music (1963). I think that this is too much of an exaggeration, since the only common thing between the stories of the two films being a teacher, who wins over his unruly wards. That is a common theme enough in films and novels. The whole context and the treatment of the story is completely different. All said and done one can’t deny that the song saa re ke saa re has a similarity to doe a deer. The similarity is not in the tune but in the sense that both songs explain the seven notes of music.

“Shahi Lutera” (1965) was produced by Nirma Anand and directed by Akkoo for BNT Films production. The movie had Chitra, Azad, Indira, B M Vyas, Nirmal Anand, Tiwari, Shaikh, Heera Sawant, Ram Raseela, Arvind Kumar, Jilani, Krishna, Dog Tiger, Bela Bose etc in it.

Yesterday, I had posted the song “Tumhen Dil Se Jaane Nahin Denge Hum” from the 1945 film ‘Sanyaasi’. The song came at the request of Sikander Esmail Sb who currently resides in the USA. Yesterday morning Atul ji had
forwarded to me an email from Sikander Sb, wherein he has requested for three songs from the 1940s that he is trying to locate. There are some wonderful memories of some departed friends associated with these songs.
