Sansaar hai ek nadiya

A few days ago I heard this song on my mobile. There is huge collection of songs, come from where in my mobile I do not know. When the instrument was new, my daughter was trying out all functions in it. She has downloaded many old songs. This has to be one of them. For one born in 1990’s the 1970’s songs are old. I am getting to know what songs are there only now, since I thought to make use of the cache.

This song was a known one, thanks to Vividh Bharati. It starts with Mukesh and Chorus, than in the middle there is Asha Bhonsle and ends with Mukesh. The songs is ‘Sansaar hai ek nadiya……’ from film ‘Raftaar’ (1975). It is composed by Sonik-Omi and lyricist is Abhilash. The full audio and video is available on youtube. It is picturized on Madan Puri, playing a violin. There is a break and second part of the song by Asha Bhosle and Mukesh, shows Moushmi Chatterjee and Madan Puri in an emotional reunion. Apart from these two Vinod Mehra, Danny, Ranjeet and Arpana chaudhary etc are part of the cast. From the plot summary here, it appears to be a suspense mystery.

It felt strange to hear a duet by Mukesh and Asha Bhonsle. I am not able to recall any famous hit duet by these two off hand. It was a rare combination, I think as both for major part worked with different set of music directors.

In the blog too, the tally of duets of Asha Bhosle is lowest with Mukesh at 33. Only one song less than with Manna Dey and Talat Mehmood , who have 34 each. I am referring to only major male playback singers.

I looked in the duets posted in the blog and found these known songs.
Phir na keeje meri gustaakh nigaahi ka gila, Nain tumhaare mazedaar o janaabe aali , Teetar ke do aage teetar , Wo subsh kabhi to aayegi , Hum dono milke kaaghaz pe dil ke

Considering the total songs by Mukesh, this tally looks unlikely to reach three figures mark.

This is a nice philosophical song. The violin music and tune of the song reminds of :

ek pyaar ka naghma hai….
maujon ki rawaani hai
zindagi aur kuchh bhi nahin
teri meri kahaani hai….

&

Sansaar ki har shai ka
itnaa hi fasaana hai
ek dhundh mein aana hai
ek dhundh mein jaana hai

Apart from the philosophy, this song is educating us on astronomy, and process of formation of clouds among other things.

dharti pe ambar ki ee
aankhon se barasti hain aen
ek roz yahi boonden
phir baadal banti hain

In the height on summer, the concept of boonden, baadal, nadiya, kinaare, behte dhaare and maujon ki rawaani sound good and offer some hope and relief.

Thanks Nahm ji for the post! one of those from our childhood memories and an unforgettable song.
So, the long awaited ‘farmaish’ of many has been on the blog today…

Nahm ji,

Mukesh and Asha started singing together from 1949. But they hardly have 60 odd songs with an average of 2 songs per year.

Mukesh has paltry statistics with SDB and OPN where as Asha has in abundance.
But, its always a welcome and refreshing change to listen to the combo.
My personal favorite is the duet from Pyar ka Sagar.
Many Thanks for the post.

The song you refer to is here :

Thank you for the detailed list of Mukesh-Asha Duet songs.

Prakash

Thanks Nahm ma’am and Atul Sir for covering this wonderful and memorable philosophical song in the blog. This is one of the songs which haunted me a lot since my childhood especially due to presence of Mukesh Sb. voice. This song appears in three parts in the movie. The lyrics of first two parts have been covered beautifully by you but still there is one more stanza missing which is background musicless part appears in the climax of the movie. This is in the voice of Mukesh Sb with some crying female voice (may be Moushmi Chatterjee) in the first one and half line.

Here is the lyrics of final stanza :

In aankh mein hain aansoo
dil gham me hai kyun jaane
wo paap nahi hota
jise aatma na maane
armaan na chadha apne
tu maut ki sooli par
mile chain meri rooh ko
ise apna bana le agar….. apna bana le agar
haan de do khushi unko jo dard ke maare hain
naa jaane kahan jaaen ham bahate dhaare hain….. ham

And here is the YT link :

Thanks

Thank you for the additional stanza.
