I have been discussing the songs of “Parbat Pe Apna Dera” (1944) these days. This movie is a treasure of songs that have been forgotten with time, but which deserve to be much better known. And the fact that the artists singing these songs are those who were active in the pre golden era of Hindi movies, make these songs even more valuable.

But the music of this movie broke new grounds and introduced music based on folk music. And the folks (ordinary public) lapped up this music. And soon, every other music director jumped onto the band wagon and Hindi movie music began to enjoy much higher level of popularity among public.
