The film was produced by N.Buli and it was directed by a debutante Ram Pahawa, who had been an assistant to many directors hitherto. This was the only film that he directed and after this, he returned to being assistant to directors again. There were two MDs, Dhoomi Khan and Ramlal (Chaudhari). The cast of the film was Chitra, Manhar Desai, Kumkum, Kamal, Leela Mishra, Gope, Bhudo Advani, Fazlu, Anwar Hussain, Maruti and other regular stunt film artists.

Remembering today, the music director, Chitragupt on his 34th Remembrance Day.

Chitragupt Shrivastava (16/11/1917 – 12/01/1991) was a double post-graduate in Economics and Journalism. He got a job as a lecturer in Patna University. His elder brother, Braj Nandan ‘Azaad’ was a freedom fighter who was also the editor of ‘Indian Nation’ and its Hindi counterpart, ‘Aryavrata’. Besides, he was also a percussionist as a hobby. Chitragupt was also interested in music and had undergone basic training in Hindustani classical music.

‘Ham Deewaane’ (1964) was produced by Natubhai Shah under the banner of Young India Entertainers and was directed by Master Bhagwan. The cast included Chandrashekhar, Master Bhagwan, Mumtaz, Helen, Iftekhar, Agha, Rajan Haksar, Maruti, Kundan, Anwar, Kanchanmala etc. This film was one among many attempts by Master Bhagwan to revive his filmy career which was being reduced to acting in small roles. However, this film was also an attempt to revive the musical career of C Ramchandra who composed the songs for this film as Anna Saheb, the name he had often used when associated with the films produced/directed by Master Bhagwan.

In the 1960s through 1970s, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium at Worli (Opposite Haji Ali) used to host free-style wrestling bouts. Dara Singh, Randhawa, Tiger Joginder Singh, Saudagar Singh etc among the Indians and some foreign wrestlers like King Kong used to participate in the bouts. Most wrestling bouts used to take place on Saturdays/Sundays and probably one during the weekdays. Large life size cut-outs of the famous wrestlers used to be displayed at the venue as well as some prominent places. In addition, huge posters of wrestling bouts used to be displayed on hand pulled carts (Haathh Gaadi) which will move from one place to other. Thousands of leaflets of advertisement of the wrestling bouts used to be distributed at prominent places like railway stations, bus stands and other crowded places.

Raza Murad, Bindu and Rajendra Nath had special appearances in this movie. This movie was passed by Censor Board on 20.04.1978. This movie has four songs written by Majrooh Sultanpuri and R.D Burman was the composer for this movie. Asha Bhonsle, Hemant Kumar, Kishore Kumar, Mohd Rafi and Manna Dey were the singers for the songs in this movie.

It was made in Marathi and Hindi by Alhad Chitra. In Marathi the film’s title was ” Chimni Pakharen” (चिमणी पाखरें ), which means ” The young birds”. The film was produced and directed by Datta Dharmadhikari and the music was by a pair- Vasant(Pawar) and Ramchandra(Vadhavkar). The cast of the film was Baby Shakuntala, Sulochana (Latkar), Raja Nene, Indira Chitnis, Alhaad (son of Datta Dharmadhikari, on whose name the banner was named), Raja Gosavi and many others. The Hindi songs were written by Pt. Phani.

Today’s song is from the movie which is mostly known for its’ song ‘ik ritu aaye ik ritu jaaye’ and also for being directed by Subhash Ghai. I had never watched this movie till recently. I watched movies like ‘Kaalicharan’ and ‘Vishwanath’ too on TV many years after their release.
