In this article, I have taken up for discussion, one of the unreleased films, ‘Sameera’ (1982) which was initially titled ‘Wohi Baat’ when it went to floor for shooting in 1977. The film was jointly produced by Cinematographer, K K Mahajan and the Film Editor, Pran Mehra and was directed by debutant, Vinay Shukla. The main actors in the films were Shabana Azmi, Parikshit Sahni, Mithun Chakraborty and Amol Palekar.

‘Jeewan Taaraa-1951’ was directed by Joseph Teliyeth (Junior) who also produced it for Citadel Film Corporation Ltd, Madras. It was a movie of costume drama genre. The cast of this movie includes T.R.Mahalingam, T.R.Rajkumari, P.S. Veerappa, K Sarangpani, C.V.Naygam, K.P.Kamatchi, C.V.V.Tirupathi, Somu, Swaminathan, T.P. Rajalakshami, V. Sushila, T.S. Jaya, Lalitha, and Padmini and others. This movie was passed by the Censor Board on 06.10.1951.

Kamsune-Ansune Songs of Asha Bhosle – 3

Four years ago, our friend and a regular contributor to this blog Sadanand Kamath Ji, introduced a movie which was ready in 1975 but had to wait a full 13 years before finally getting a release in 1988. This movie was titled as “Aaj Raat Ko” in 1975 only for this to be changed to “Faisla” in 1988. The song presented by Kamath Ji was a gem by Mohd. Rafi Saab – Champa Khiledaar
Today, I’ll be presenting a beauty of a song from this movie. “Koi Toh Aaye Re” is sung by Asha Bhosle, penned by Majrooh Sultanpuri and composed by R D Burman.

Today’s song is from a film with a funny title – Dhobi Doctor-1954.
During my initial days of career in the Pharmaceutical industry, this was the name we used for a Fake doctor or a R.M.P doctor, practicing in villages and small towns or the poor areas of cities. The joke on them was that they would wash the patients clean of their money instead of treating their disease ! Hindi film industry is replete with comical film titles galore. A sample of some film titles….Aaja Nachle, Aadam ka janam, Aag laga do sawan ko, Awara Paagal Deewana, Bombai ki Billi, Banana Brothers, Chhatri Chor, Chaar Chakram, Chillar party, Dhan Dhana Dhan, Faaltu, Gabroo, Ghar mein ho sali to poora saal Diwali etc.etc. I stop here because the list will be too long.

“Chandan Ka Palna”(1967) was produced by Zaibunnisa Usman Ali and Khairunnisa Ismail Memon and was directed by Ismail Memon for Aarzoo Films, Bombay. The movie had Dhamendra, Meena Kumari, Mehmood, Mumtaz, Durga Khote, Dhumal, Nazir Hussain, Bipin Gupta, Shabnam, Mukri etc in it.
