I find Hindi films with a broader genre of road trips (or journey in any mode) quite interesting. In such films, events happen during the journeys which usually culminate into sub-genres such as romance, comedy, social drama, suspense thriller etc. In this broad category, I have watched films like ‘Nau Do Gyaarah’ (1957), ‘Caravan’ (1971), ‘Bombay To Goa’ (1972), ‘Dil Hai Ki Maanta Naheen’ (1991),‘Dil Chaahta Hai’ (2001), ‘Jab We Met’ (2007), ‘Zindagi Na Milengi Dobaara’ (2011), ‘Finding Fanny’ (2014), ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ (2015), ‘Piku’ (2015), ‘Dhanak’ (2015), ‘Qareeb Qareeb Single’ (2017) and many more. ‘Kaarwaan’ (2018) is my recent addition in watching films in the genre of road trips.

‘Chakra’ (1980) was produced by Manmohan Shetty and Pradeep Uppoor under the banner of Neo Films and was directed by debutant Robin Dharmaraj. The main cast included Smita Patil, Nasiruddin Shah, Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Ranjit Chowdhry with the supporting cast of Anjali Paigankar, Savita Bajaj, Suhas Bhalekar, Dilip Dhawan, Rohini Hattangadi, Sudhir Pande, Alka Kubal, Madan Jain, Salim Ghouse, Satish Kaushik, Sumant Mastakar, Arun Bakshi, Ratan Gurung etc. The film was based on a novella by the same name in Marathi written by Jaywant Dalvi, one of the greatest Marathi novelists, short story writers and the playwrights.

The main cast included Shobana, Nasir Abdullah and Preeti Vissa with the supporting cast of Matt Phillips, Black Ormsby, Shirley Bannet, Brain Linebaugh, Janine Pibal, Michael Bailey, Sreenivasan, Karthik etc. The film is known for having primarily all woman crew, which according to Revathy, was a mere coincidence. Also, they were first timers associated with a feature film.

Autism is a neurobehavioural disorder in which the affected people’s brain works differently than those of the normal people. In India, one child out of 68 newly born children is affected by autism. Since autism is not an illness or disease, parents will not come to know whether their child is affected by autism until he grows and they notice a different behaviour pattern than that of a normal child. It is difficult for a autism affected child to properly communicate with others and to understand what other people think about him. It is still unknown as to what causes autism. Nor is there any cure for it.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Soorajmukhi’ (as spelled in the title of the movie) from the year 1992. I came across this song almost five years back and liked it very much. I have listened to this song several times by now. However, I didn’t have much information about this movie so kept covering this song pending for future. Thereafter I noticed that this movie was made available on an online video sharing platform. I watched the movie and then I became curious to know more about the lyricist of the songs of this movie viz Sharda Nand Tiwary. I had earlier presented a song penned by him on the blog on 01.11.2022. That song too is a very nice song with good lyrics. Finally, one day I came across the profile of Sharda Nand Tiwary on a social media platform for professionals. With this information on hand, I was now ready to present this song.

Today’s song is from the film Sanskar-1958.
There were 3 films made with the same title, in 1940, 1952 and 1958. This film was made by Filmistan. It was directed by Chaturbhuj Doshi. This was ,incidentally, his last film as a Hindi film director.
During the early era of talkie films, till the 1960s, there was a horde of Gujarati directors and producers. Bhatts, Trivedi, Thakur, Shahs, Desais, Pancholi, Doshi, Daves were some names frequently found directing various genres. Usually they specialised in certain classes and types of films. The Bhatts (Shankar and Vijay) liked to do Mythological films, Ramnik Shah handled stunt, action, fantasy films, Jayant Desai was social film oriented etc.

The film’s title, ‘Fanney Khan’ (2018) with its star cast created interest in me when the film was formally announced. Just as the name ‘Natwarlal’ is identified with a conman, ‘Fanney Khan’ is identified with a man who boasts of his high achievements but in reality, others do not consider him as such. However, in the teaser of ‘Fanney Khan’ (2018), the meaning of ‘Fanney Khan’ has been explained in the context of the film as ‘someone who is an artist, a musician, a dreamer or even a complete idiot’. My interest in the film waned on reading the adverse reviews of the film after the film got a theatrical release on August 4, 2018. After a gap of nearly six years of the film’s release, I am liking a couple of songs from this film. So, I watched the film on a video sharing platform. It is nearly six months after I watched the film, I thought of writing an article on the film covering one of the songs I liked.
