This occasion is a recurring occasion for the blog and comes like clockwork. It is just that the timing of the clock is variable. 🙂 It typically used to come twice in a month in the past and now a days it comes after every two months or so.
I am talking about the century post of the blog.

While covering songs on most days, I do not feel much pressure. The only pressure on me is that the day should not end up as a DOT day. I make sure that at least one writeup appears on the blog every day. Fortunately there has been no DOT days this year. The last DOT day of the blog was in December 2019.
The other “pressure”, apart from that of avoiding DOT day, is to make sure that guest posts are published within a day or so. If there is too much delay in publishing them then it may lead to avoidable misunderstanding. Then there is pressure of publishing articles that are topical (having to do with anniversaries, special days etc) which must be published on the appointed day otherwise they lose their relevance.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 31
—————————————————————-
Agha Jaani Kashmiri (16/10/1908 – 27/03/1998) was perhaps the first story/screen-play/dialogue writer who was the ‘king maker’ in the Hindi film industry. Some of the producers/directors like Mehboob Khan, Shashidhar Mukherjee, Sunil Dutt used to consult him while taking up their new film projects. It is said that though he would be officially engaged for writing screen-play and dialogues, in realities, he would be their adviser in almost all the aspects of the film-making. Some of the actors themselves used to get trained from him about the correct pronunciations of their dialogues in Hindustani. Ashok Kumar, Devika Rani, Nargis, Joy Mukherjee, Sadhna, Saira Bano were some of the actors who sought his advice on their Urdu diction.

So we reach yet another century of posts in the blog. It appears to be a rather fast century, even though it took 45 days. It is faster in comparison to “recent” centuries though. It is the fastest century since 147th century (Song number 14601 to 14700) which took 53 days to complete. There were days when centuries in 16 days used to be the norm. 🙂
Better late than never, of course. The blog keeps movis steadily, without a pause and that gives us the confidence that our musical bandwagon in moving (however slowly) and so we are indeed inching towards our destination.

Another wonderful discovery, another song that I had never heard before. The film is ‘Zindagi’ from 1956. The music composition is by Mohammed Shafi.
Mohammed Shafi is the name I was trying to get to also, on 30th April, which is the remembrance day for him. After getting the post in place for C Arjun that evening, I was not able to pull together this post, for remembering Mohammed Shafi Sb.
Once again, another very talented music director about whom, not much information is available. After much searching, I am able to locate a very brief article by a gentleman named Qaseem Abbaasi on the web site ‘Apnaarchives.org’. I am including some details from that article in this post.

If there was a category like ‘post inspired by fellow Atulite’ or ‘post inspired by Atulite WA group chat’, this post would have been included under that category. This past Sunday there was a discussion between me and Peevesie’s Mom ji regarding the theme of the ‘Rangoli’ this week, which was Jaya Bhaduri/Bachchan, and so I messaged to her that I was expecting a post from her. Instead, she asked me that even I can do a post. And she also pointed out the birth anniversary of actor Jeetendra (and so if there was a song of Jaya Bachchan and Jeetendra, it would have been suitable for the post).

Ok, so Atul approached me a few days ago requesting me for a post for a special occasion.
My posts have become very infrequent here – in fact, before my latest post on Sahir’s birth anniversary (8th March), my previous post was on his death anniversary last year (25th October). So a gap of more than 4 months.
But then, like often happens in Test cricket, you wait and wait for a wicket to fall – and when one falls, another quickly follows.
Same has happened here. Following quickly on the heels of the 8th March post, here is another one.
And on such an occasion that I just could not refuse. Let’s just call it the perfect yorker. 🙂
Friends, I am SO honoured here to present Rafisaab’s 3000th song on this blog.
