As valentine day party songs go, this one is not really so big on the event. Except for the heart shaped balloons, there is no other indication of this being a valentine day song. Point to be noted is that, the blog seems to have ignored this occasion also, along with a host of other days that are specifically designated throughout the year. Whatsapp university does a quite adequate job of reminding us of all these days, be it mother’s day, father’s day, couple day, hug day, chocolate day to name a few. These are just the days which came readily to mind, because a few of them were during this past week.

‘Anokha Milan’ (1972) is a dubbed Hindi version of Bangla film, ‘Paari’ (1966). Produced by Pranoti Bhattacharya (nee Ghosh, wife of Abhi Bhattacharya) under the banner of New India Pictures, Calcutta, the film was directed by Jagannath Chatterjee. The main star cast includes Dharmendra, Pranoti Ghosh, Abhi Bhattacharya, Bikash Roy, Dilip Roy, Satya Banerjee, Padma Devi, Renuka Roy etc. Dilip Kumar had a guest role of a Warden of Andaman Jail. The film is based on a story written by the famous Bengali writer, Jarasandha (real name: Charu Chandra Chakraborty). Pranoti Ghosh is not new to the Hindi films. Earlier, she had worked in Hindi films like ‘Phulwaari’ (1951), ‘Parichay’ (1954), ‘Jagriti’ (1954), ‘Love Marriage’ (1959) and ‘Sautela Bhai’ (1962).

Bombay Talkies and Prabhat Film company of Poona were the companies that tackled offbeat and social reform issues through their films. Aah yes, this one too. This iconic and popular song from the 1969 film ‘Jeene Ki Raah’, reappeared in a shorter version in the 1972 film ‘Baazigar’. Albeit the use of this song is somewhat casual, and does not seem to fulfill any purpose, symbolic or otherwise. Seems like a time filler, as one goes through the initial part of the film.
