Today’s song in this post is from the 1964 movie ‘Bhakt Dhruv Kumar’. Today I am presenting the third song from this movie. Though I had not got to listen to the songs from this movie earlier, but few months back I had shared a song from this movie which I liked very much. This song is another wonderful song and I wonder why it was not posted earlier on this blog.

Today’s song is the last and final song of the film Son of Sindbad-1958.

So far, hundreds of songs have been discussed from films on Arabian Nights stories of Alladin, Alibaba and Sindbad. In these posts almost all the relevant points have been discussed. So, there is a very little new thing that can be brought out and now such posts look repetitive. But it does not mean that everything is over. There are still many things which can be discussed with new angles and especially new information found on the older artists can be brought out.

Today’s song is a Bhajan from the Religious film (Bhakti Pradhan)- Narsi Mehta-1957.

This film was made by Producer/Director Devendra Goyal for his banner Goyal Cine Corporation, Bombay. The music was by Ravi aka Ravishankar Sharma, who had debuted as an independent Music Director, with the film Vachan in 1955. In a very short time, he had earned a good name. There were popular bhajans like, Darshan do Ghanshyam, Jay Govinda Gopala, Vaishnav jan to tene kahiye, Sab ki naiya paar lagaiya’ Ramdhun lagi etc. On the whole this film was full of religious fervour, good music and a show of histrionic talents by experienced artists. The cast included Shyama, Shahu Modak, Lalita Pawar, Radha Kishen, Madan Puri, protima Devi and many others. There were 4 Guest artists, including S.N.Tripathi.

Today’s song is from a Costume film (HFGK mentions it as a ‘social’ film) – Awara Shehzadi-1956.

There are a total of 14 film titles having Awara in it. Funnily, the original “Awara Shehzada”was a film of 1933. It took 23 years to bring about a female version of the Title with Awara Shehzadi in 1956 ! Incidentally, the film ‘Awara Shehzada’-33 was the First Talkie film, having a Double Role. Shahu Modak had done the roles of the Prince ( Rajkumar) and the Pauper ( Bholaram) in this film. It was directed by Master Vithal, the First Hero of First Talike of India, “Aalam Ara “-1931. Master Vithal was also the first male actor to feature in the Silent Films’ first double role in the film ” Prisoner of Love “- 1927 (aka Raj Tarang) made by Sharda Films.

It has been a while since my number of posts on the Atul’s Song A Day Blog have been sitting at a Dozen. The Thirteenth post has taken a while. The number 13 is it Unlucky. Let us see what is the reason for this.
The number 13 is considered unlucky in many cultures (especially in Western countries) for a combination of historical, religious, and cultural reasons that reinforced one another over centuries. Here are the main sources of the superstition:-

The song under discussion is from the movie ‘Hari Darshan-1972’. It was a mythological movie.

I enjoyed watching mythological movies during my childhood, both in colour as well as black-white (most of them used to be black and white). Mythological movies used to faascinate me.

However I have no recollections of watching ‘Hari Darshan-1972’ dring its first run. But I remember the songs of this movie that were ofen played on loudspeakers during festivals. Its songs were ofen heard on radio as well.

I have presented two songs from this movie in the past . This song, the third song from the movie being presented in the blog was a familiar song to me, but I was not aware till recently that this song had three versions. I was only aware of Lata Mangeshkar version of this song.

‘AANKHIN DEKHI-1978’ seems to be an obscure movie of its time as I could not find any video of this movie or its songs on internet. Not much information is avilable about the story of this movie or its trivia, except the details given in Geet Kosh Vol-V (1971-1980). Rajinder Singh Bedi ji was the director of this movie. It was a ‘Dachi Films, Bombay’ presentation and it was passed by Censor Board on 18.12.1978.

Today’s song is from a Religious film- Sant Tukaram-1965.

The period 1961 to 1980 is called the “Golden period” of Indian Cinema, because the way films were made was very close to people’s sentiments, aspirations and lifestyles. Such Closeness never came again. The Indian film industry gave a tough fight to Hollywood in techniques and made meaningful films which the world appreciated. By this time, the Indians migrating to foreign countries increased manifolds and they helped spread the popularity of Indian Cinema.

This was the period when colour film making increased manifolds, but the spread was very slow. In 1960 only 3 colour films were made and in 1961 only 7 films. The number crossed the 10’s mark only in 1965.
