I always get myself confused between “Aandhi” and “Mausam”. Both these movies were released in 1975 and both these movies had Sanjeev Kumar as the hero. And both these movies were music lovers’ delight. But the fact remains that the two movies were different movies, with different heroines, different music directors etc.

When I was young, I loved making records- no, not the kind of records that played on record players, but the kind which gave you gloating rights. The songs of “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” (1971) were big rage during their time. One song that was a huge hit with kids like me was this song “Kaanchaa re Kaanchaa re”. Overnight, people with Nepali features began to be called Kaanchaa (males) and Kaanchi (females) respectively. One of my acquaintence kid sang this song “Kaanchi re Kaanchi re” addressed to a Nepali girl,hoping to eve tease her, but the girl, instead of feeling offended, sang back “Kaanchaa re Kaanchaa re” to him. 😉

It is quite common for me to remark that many of the songs being posted are songs that I came across only recently. And I also find myself remarking frequently that I found these songs to be gem stuff, even though the movies as well as the songs contained in these movies failed to get popular.

“Mere Jeewan Saathi” (1972) is a movie starring Rajesh Khanna and Tanuja, the hit pair of “Haathi Mere Saathi”. This movie, like most Rajesh Khanna movies, was a musical blockbuster, where almost all songs went on to become very popular.

When I was growing up in a city in 1972, a new movie hall had come up and it was showing “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972). Its song were so wonderful to listen to that I as a pre teen kid dearly wanted to watch the movie. One fine day, I dragged my elders to the movie hall to watch this movie. And what did I see ? The movie was withdrawn the previous day, and the movie “Zindagi Zindagi” (1972) was being shown instead.
