As my age advances, I have started realising that I am recalling memories of my childhood and younger days much better than before. The flip side is that I tend to get forgetful or absent-minded in respect of my immediate past events. While the old days’ remembrance can be nostalgic and some time makes me emotional, the positive side is that I have started remembering some of the old Hindi films songs which I had completely forgotten for many years. But here is a catch which places me in a piquant situation. In some cases, I just remember the tune of a song and not the starting words or in an other way round, I remember the starting words but struggle to get to the tune of the song. Obviously, I have no inkling about the names of the films concerning these songs.

Today (28th january) is the birth anniversary of Suman Kalyanpur. On this occasion, here is the title song of “Dil Ek Mandir” (1963). The song is a duet which is sung by Rafi and Suman Kalyanpur and it is picturised as the movie ending song as we see people mourning the death of Rajendra Kumar in the picturisation and the movie comes to an end. This song is the title song of the movie as well.

“Qawwaali Ki Raat” (1964) was obviously inspired from “Barsaat Ki Raat” (1960). The songs of “Qawwali Ki Raat” (1964) were nice in their own right, if we do not seek to make comparisons with “Barsaat Ki Raat” (1960) songs.

“Miss Bombay” (1957) was not about a female beauty queen, but about a bus called “Miss Bombay”, which is driven by Ajit in the movie. This movie was produced by N C films and it was directed by Kedar Kapoor. The movie had Ajit, Nalini Jaiwant, Bhagwan,Tiwari,Rehman,Vijaylaxmi,Bhudo Adwani,Pravin Pal etc in it. This movie may have led to some fan following among other B grade movie makers, because movies with similar titles, viz. Miss Punjab Mail, Miss Toofaan Mail etc. were produced the next year.

“Jee Chaahta Hai” (1964) is a movie starring Joy Mukherji, Rashree, Shyama, Rajendranath, Nazir Hussain,Jeewan etc. I have not seen the movie so I often try to guess the story of the movie from the picturisation of the song, and my conclusions thus drawn about the movie are often quite off the mark. 😀
