Today’s song is from film ‘Shahkaar’ (1947). Very few people must have heard about this film. That is probably because, it was made in 1947- the year of India’s partition. As the year 1947 began, news was circulating about the partition. Like many other industries, film industry was also worried. There was an air of uncertainty. Who will stay and who will migrate was hotly debated in the privacy of homes, studios and clubs. People looked at each others with suspicion. Muslims were worried about their safety in India, in spite of the assurances by Gandhi and Nehru.

Today (31 march 2018) is the last day of the financial year 2017-18 that is followed in India. One would like to close the accounts of the financial year meeting all the targets and start the new financial year with a clean slate.
Today also happens to be the 46th remembrance day of Meena Kumari (1 August 1933– 31 March 1972). I was a school kid when she died and we school kids discussed this matter among ourselves. Our verdict was that her demise would help the box office prospects of “Paakeeza”which was scheduled to be released soon.

Today’s song is a fun song from the film Khota Paisa (1958). It is sung by Rafi, Shamshad and chorus. The film was one of those in which Johnny Walker was the Hero opposite Shyama. Johnny Walker was on the peak of popularity during that period. The film was produced and directed by M.Sadiq, under his own banner Sadiq Productions, Bombay. Music was by Madan Mohan.
