During 1970s, when I was in my teens, I used to maintain records of cricket. Nowadays, we have access to cricket records with the click of a few buttons on computer or mobile phones but that was not the case 50 odd years ago. At about the same time, I also started noting down the lyrics of Hindi movie songs that I liked. Those days were pre HFGK days when we had no idea how many movie songs were created by then. The claims of 25000 plus songs and 28000 songs by individual singers were entertained and published even in Guiness Book of world records those days !

This movie had Naseer Khan, Zabeen, Beghampara, Nazeer Hussain, David, Om Prakash, Noor, Shyam Lal, Ramesh Thakur, Prakash, Ramlal, Master Ashok, Bhalla etc in it. If one looks at professions, we find that different professions have enjoyed popularity during different times. As new inventions were made, new professions came about. The profession of film actors, technicians etc were created when film making started. Singers have been there in the past as well but they typically used to be patronised in royal court. with the invention of gramophone recording, singers’ songs could be recorded and played even at remote locations where the singer would never go. That way this invention revolutionised the spread of music. As Radio was invented, these records could be played on radio stations and the same songs could reach a vast audience who did not need to possess these records themselves. So Radio, along with records, enabled dissemination of music, as well as news etc at a level that was revolutionary in human history.

Mukesh and his Actors – 07
As we draw towards the last few HF songs of Mukesh, it is becoming increasingly difficult to trace his unposted songs on the blog.
Of late, I pick up an artist (actor, co-singer, composer) and start the rigorous search on the blog to see if all the respective songs are covered. In this exercise, I am also realizing that I have myself covered the artist in one of my series in the past. 😊
Of course, I am yet to cover Raj Kapoor, Lata, Asha, and three duo-composers for whom Mukesh sang songs aplenty. The issue with such artists is that I must spend considerable time preparing the lengthy tables. However, they are quite important, and I will try to take up these marathon posts shortly. I am even contemplating breaking the songs decade-wise so that it is easy for me to cover them. Let me see what best can be done.

Today’s song is from the film Kaise Kahoon-1945.
The film was made by Pancholi Art Pictures, Lahore, owned by Dalsukh Pancholi. In those days,there were only 3 filmmaking centres of Hindi Films. Bombay, Calcutta and Lahore. Bombay made Hindi and Marathi films, Calcutta made Bangla and Hindi films and Lahore made Punjabi and Hindi films. Though the youngest was Lahore, in a short time, it had made some popular and hit Hindi films.

‘Duniya Kyaa Jaane’ (1971) was produced and directed by C V Sridhar under his banner, Chithralaya Pictures. The cast included Bharti, Pramendra, Anupama, Krishnakant, Nazeer Hussain, Sulochana Chatterjee, Mumtaz Begum, Manmohan, Mac Mohan, Iftikhar etc. It was a remake of C V Sridhar’s Tamil film, ‘Avalukendru oru Manam’ (1971). Bharti was the only common actor in both the versions. While, the Tamil version was a box office hit, the Hindi version did not attain the same status on the box office.

Mukesh and his Actors – 06
Navin Nischol was amongst the new breed of actors to grace the silver screen from the early 70’s. He made his debut with the film Sawan Bhadon (1970) in which he was paired with none other than Rekha who was also making her debut in Hindi films.
His popular films and even more popular songs are well known. Without going into the details of his films and his successful foray into television media, I direct readers to his wiki page where ample details are provided.
