Today’s song is from the film Piya Milan-1958.
The 50’s decade was full of a deluge of films from the south. After S.S.Vasan proved that it was possible to capture the All India Hindi Audience market for South-made films, there was a mad rush and almost all major and minor film companies from south tried to get at least a small piece of the “Hindi Audience Cake” for their films. Films came in the shapes of Bilinguals, remakes and dubbed ones. Bilinguals – when a film is made in 2 languages at a time, one language being Hindi, remakes were new Hindi films made on old Hit films of South Indian languages. Dubbed films were films made in the southern language, with a sound track of Hindi language.

Hullo Atuldom
Wishing our guiding force; ex-Ranchiwala now-Bhopali Gaanewala, usually addressed as Atulji by the followers of ASAD (acronym for atulsongaday) A Very Happy Birthday. I thank him (as always) for providing us this platform where “birds of a feather flock together”. What started as a place for one post (not necessarily one song though, as some posts contain all versions of a song) a day had become a multi-post per day blog after the initial few months of its journey. May today and all of your days be creative and innovative.

Pancham’s Music – Eighties (1981-1990) Part-2 –post-2 (1982)
In this post I am presenting a wonderful Pancham song from the movie ‘Ye Vaadaa Rahaa-1982’. I vaguely remember to have watched this movie during the weekly screening of movies in our colony club during 1982-1983. The year 1982-1983 was the academic year of class Xth for me, which means I would be appearing for board exams in the month of March-1983. I was above fourteen years of age when I would have watched this movie. So that was a perfect time for a growing person to get ‘dreamy’ in life and about life around us. The school days were full of fun. Every one of my friends was serious about studies I was the one more interested in cricket and was missing someone who had left for another town due to transfer of her father from the place where we were staying. I remember I liked this movie and its music very much and the songs from this movie have remained close to my heart ever since. On this blog we have so far covered four songs from this movie.

#Taraanaa-1979#

(Happy Birthday Mithun Chakravarty)

‘Taraana-1979’ was directed by Deepak Bahri for Chanda Pictures. It was presented by Rajshri Productions and produced by Tarachand Barjatya. Living upto the reputation of the production house this movie too gives us a clean, musical, family entertainer movie. This is a nice movie having a nice story line of ‘love’ and including sub-plots of ‘lost and found’ story, and ‘wealthy and poor’ conflict to it. The cast of this movie ‘Taraana-1979’ is Ranjeeta, Mithun Chakraborty, Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Urmila Bhatt, Jayshree T., Sharat Saxena, and Om Shivpuri. They were supported by Yunus Parvez, Janki Das, Sundar, Bhagwan, Shakeel, Satyabhan Sinha, Naresh, Pardesi, Master Sandeep, Shobha Khote, Mala Jaggi, Uma Khosla, and Jagdeep. The story, screenplay and dialogues of this movie were written by Khalid & Narvi. Editing of this film was done by Mukhtar Ahmed.

Today’s song is from a 89 year old Talkie film, Jeevan Lata-1936. This was the production of the then popular Sagar Movietone, Bombay. Sagar had introduced a new hero in the same year – Surendranath, who was promoted as a competition to Saigal from Calcutta’s giant New Theatres.
Film Jeevanlata-1936 featured Motilal and Sabita devi. Motilal was introduced by Sagar in 1934 – opposite Sabita Devi, for whom that was her 4th talkie film with the production house. Jeevanlata-1936 was the 5th film of Motilal and the 8th film of Sabita Devi.
