Today’s song is from the film Biwi (1950).
In the HFGK the title of this film is spelt as BEEWEE, whereas elsewhere on YouTube and the entire internet sites which I saw, the spelling is BIWI. A simple word like BIWI became BEEWEE for reasons known only to the makers of this film.

Today’s song is from the film Khamosh Sipahi-(1950).
The film was made by Maansarovar Pictures, Bombay, owned by Dinanath Madhok, who was not only its producer, co-director, story and script writer but also its Lyricist. The music was by Hansraj Behl and the film had its co- director Ram Kamlani, the youngest brother of comedian Gope. HFGK gives only 4 names in the cast-Nigar Sultana, Sohan, Gope and David. Surely there must be more artistes but they are not mentioned. This is one of those films which is not available now and no information about its story is available anywhere.

‘Sutradhar’ (1987) was an off-beat film which was directed by Chandrakant Joshi. The main cast of the film included Smita Patil and Nana Patekar in the lead roles, supported by Girish Karnad, Gajanan Jagirdar, Nilu Phule, Ashalata Wabgaonkar, Madhu Kambikar, Kamalakar Sarang, Shrikant Moghe, Irshad Hashmi, Master Hrishikesh Joshi etc. Sudheer Moghe wrote lyrics and composed the songs for the film. The film was certified by Censor Board on 31/01/1986 and may have been released a year later as the film’s credit title starts with the film being dedicated to the late Smita Patil who passed away on 13/12/1986. As far as I know, this was the only film in which Smita Patil and Nana Patekar acted together in the lead roles.

The Voice of Mukesh #72
– – – – – – – – – – – – –
I am sure the regulars will remember. Reviving this series after a gap of almost seven years. When I paused working on this series, I had already posted 71 of some of the most rare, less heard and not easily available songs of Mukesh. The songs posted were mainly from the decades of 1940s and 1950s. Although I had clicked on the pause button back in 2016, the work to bring on board more of Mukesh songs did continue. And it still does, with the tireless research effort of our resident Mukesh expert and mureed (मुरीद), dear Mahesh ji.

#the Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Missing movies of 1973-Hifaazat-23)
——————————————-—————————
Today we pay our tributes to one of the greatest music directors of Hindi Cinema i.e. Rahul Dev Burman. He was born on this day i.e. 27th June, 1939 and passed away on 04th Jaunary, 1994. Had he been alive today he would have turned eighty four years old. But he left us at the age of fifty-five only. In his last days he suffered on both health ground and mentally he was upset for treatment given to him in those troubled days by the industry and peoples around him.
Today I am presenting a song from a lesser known movie where the music was composed by RD Burman. This movie is ‘Hifaazat’ from 1973. This movie is making its debut on the blog today.

Mukesh and his Composers – 26
There are many songs of Mukesh which I avoid listening too often. For every time I listen to them, I like to savour the magic in his voice afresh. Some of such songs are “Aansoo Bhari Hain Ye Jeevan Ki Raahen“, “Jaane Kahaan Gaye Wo Din“, “Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye“, “Ye Mera Deewaanapan Hai” and a host of many other songs. I know that the sample of above quoted songs are quite familiar and well-known, but then there are dozens of songs in the 40’s and 50’s which have additional flavor and uniqueness in them. It is extremely difficult to describe in words what effect the mind and soul experience on listening to such songs. Mukesh did sing them for situations in the film. What remains today of these movies is mainly the vocal impulses of his melodious voice.
