When it comes to a movie called “Albelaa”, there have been two movies of this name. “Albelaa” (1952) , which had Bhagwan and Geeta Bali in lead roles was a mega hit. This movie was a musical blockbuster too. Another movie of the same name was released in 1971. This movie, which was produced by Mehmood was not a success at the box office, but this movie had some very nice songs in it. I have already posted one lovely song-Devta maanaa aur pooja teri tasweer ko (Albelaa) – from this movie.

When “Fakeera” (1976) was released, I pooh poohed it as a B grade movie. Even the reviews of this movie in magazines seemed to bear me out that the movie was no great shakes.

This song is the 2600th on this blog. That’s quite a milestone, considering every song is a construction on its own.

Kishore Kumar is mainly associated with light hearted fun songs, though he has sung great songs in all genres including serious songs. It is a well known fact that Kishore Kumar was a natural singer, who had not taken any training in classical music, unlike most other leading singers. In fact, this lack of classical training was often taken to mean by music directors that Kishore Kumar could not sing such songs. I can recall at least one occasion where Manna Dey’s voice was used for Kishore Kumar the actor for a semi classical song situation. 🙂

I sincerely believe that parents should take care of their kids and they should not deprive them of their basic requirements. And what did a kid like me want in 1972 as his basic requirement ? I badly wanted to see “Seeta Aur Geeta” (1972). The songs of this movie had such a pied piper like effect that everyone was attracted towards the movie halls screening this movie. My elders too agreed to take me to watch this movie and I was so happy with the prospect of being able to watch the movie and to have the best moment of my life till then.

“Shrimaanji” (1968) is a movie whose songs were too elusive to locate for me all these days. Finally they seem to have become available and I was able to post one song from this movie.

Hindi Films in the early 1970s could be clearly divided into two categories : “Rajesh Khanna” films and “Others”.
Such was Rajesh Khanna’s domination that unless you were a name already (like Dharmendra, Shashi Kapoor or Sanjeev Kumar), it was tough for another hero to compete with the Rajesh wave. Ageing heroes like Rajendra Kumar and Biswajeet began getting rejected, aspiring heroes like Rakesh Pandey and Romesh Sharma began getting dejected. You needed tremendous staying power, patience and a lot of luck to ride through those times. Ask Amitabh Bachchan who had a string of flops till Dame Luck smiled on him, with the lead role in Zanjeer falling into his lap with Dev Anand rejecting it.

I was on the lookout for this song for quite some time, ever since Raja gave me the farmaish of this song from “Shrimaanji”. In all this time, I managed to find (and post) several songs from “Shrimatiji”, but I drew a blank as far as locating songs of “Shrimaanji” was concerned.

There was a time when India had only one TV channel and that used to telecast boring programmes and news. Now we have countless channels including several news channels. These news channels are often short of ideas and they try to create news out of thin air and call that as “breaking news”. Typically the reporter of the channel will go to a certain site and try to describe a breaking news item, and he will struggle to find things to say.
