It is well past 3.00 in the night (early hours of the 18th of July) as I start to write this post for the blog. I’m tired, my eyes are almost closing, I know I should be going to sleep – but the mind is rebelling and urging me on. It is saying “Go on, you can do it, you need to do it. You need to write a post, however tired you are, however badly the post comes out. You cannot let him down. Not on his death anniversary.”

This is a song from the film Najaria-52. It is a duet by Kishore and an unknown female voice. The song is one of those rare songs when Kishore sang for someone other than himself or Dev Anand in the early 50s. That was the time when Kishore Kumar was trying hard, but composers were not taking him seriously as a singer. Only S D Burman started using him for Dev Anand from the film Baazi-51. Almost all other songs of Kishore were for himself on the screen.

So today (30 june 2016) is the last day of June. On reviewing the page of Anniversaries on our blog I find that we have a few music directors whose birthdays were in this month. We had Sajjad Hussain, Hemant Kumar, Madan Mohan & RD Burman. And today 30th June is the birth anniversary of Kalyanji Veerji Shah. I mean Kalyanji of the Kalyanji – Anandji Duo. He would have turned 88 today.

In my previous posts I have mentioned about the summer vacatons during my childhood days when I would be watching movies in the company of my Uncles, brothers and cousins. We used to visit the Akola, the nearest city for many reasons (viz buying provisions etc), but watching movies was the main attraction for us – children- to go to Akola.

Today’s song is a typical Kishore Kumar song from the film Jhumroo(1961). I have selected this song for two reasons. One, any song of Kishore Kumar-before the 70s- is loved by me and Two, this song has revived the memories of my college days.

Rakesh Roshan, a struggling actor of his time turned a producer mainly because he was struggling to get roles in movies of other producers. The first movie of his production house called Filmkraft was “Aapke Deewaane”(1979). This movie flopped at the box office and that plunged Rakesh Roshan into serious financial troubles. The original movie was “Subhodayam”(1980), a Telugu movie which was remade into Hindi as “Kaamchor”(1982). K Vishwanath, who directed the Telugu original, directed the Hindi remake as well.
