Few people today remember this movie called “Aman” (1967). It must have been a huge flop for this movie to end up like this considering that the movie had big names in it. Rajendra Kumar and Saira Bano were leading names during those days and Shankar Jaikishan were the biggest names in music direction those days. But all these big names could not rescue this movie.

“Mere Mehboob” (1963) is a kind of movie that is popularly described as a Muslim social movie. This movie, like most movies of this genre had wonderful songs in it. In fact, the music of this movie was the major reason behind the success of this movie , the actors of this movie were just in the right place at the right time and benefitted from the roaring success of the music of this movie.

In mainstream Hindi movies of the golden era, there used to be a dance situation in a night club, which was tailor made for a cabarat dance by Helen. Movie makers whose movies were based on pre cabarat dance eras (viz Historical/mythological/Fantasy movies)also found dance situations where Helen and other dacing ladies were shown to dance in the courts of Kings.

I have noticed that Hindi movies rarely show actors keeping pets like say cats and dogs. When I was growing up in 1960s and 1970s, most Indian families regarded keeping pets a luxury that average families could ill afford. Then there were people who were superstitious and they thought that a cat especially black one crossing their path was inauspicious. Only villains would keep pets in Hindi movies.

These are the days of being political correct. Instead of calling a spade a spade, these days we use euphemisms instead. Thus, what was called an imbecile in the past is now called “differently enabled” and what was once called blind is now called “visually impaired”. Those were the days when cutting trees and hunting tigers was considered the in thing. Now these activities are banned.
