“Sharmilee” (1971) was one of those movies that I lived a lot. This movie and its songs came about at a time when Kishore Kumar and R D Burman had taken the Hindi movie music world by storm. I also happened to be at an impressionable age (8-12 year age group) which meant that I was highly impressed and influenced by the music of that time. Forget me, even the so called grown ups turned out to be just as impressionable as me, as far as liking Kishore Kumar-R D Burman brand of music was concerned.

Initially I thought that this movie “Bhabhi” (1957) only had one great song, viz. Chal ud ja re panchchi but with time I realised that this movie was full of memorable songs in it. By now I have discussed as many as five songs from “Bhabhi” (1957) in this blog.

I am aware of movies called “Aag” and “Aah” which were produced in late 1940s and early 1950s/ respectively. Another movie of a similar sounding title, viz “Aas” was also produced in the same era. This movie had Shekhar and Kamini Kaushal in it.

“Love in Tokyo”(1966) is the most Shammi Kapoorish of all movies not involving the great man himself. “Love in Tokyo” (1966) has Joy Mukherji instead and he does a great job here as a Shammi Kapoor clone.

“Railway Platform” (1955) is a movie which is now known as the debut movie of Sunil Dutt. Apart from that, this movie also has some nice songs in it, including the iconic song Basti basti parwat parwat gaataa jaaye banjaaraa

Many fans remember “Ujaalaa” (1959) as one of the earlier Shammi Kapoor kind of movie. But Shammi Kapoor was not the only lead actor in this movie. Raj Kumar was also there in this movie, and he in fact may have been the better known of the two as well.
