This post is my 100th on Atul Song A Day blog created by Atul Ji and well supported by a bunch of film & music enthusiasts.
I started this journey on 20/01/2014, with Rafi Saab song “Chup chup chup kyun baithhi ho ” from Hamrahi 1974.
Since then lot has happened in terms of my family structure (going from being parents to two boys – to becoming grandparents to two cute and chubby kids – a boy, Arjun and a girl, Takshavi), to downsizing our house (from a 5 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom house – because the children moved out in 2016 & 17), to changes in my physical structure, from being a full bodied person to becoming an amputee (1. having lost all my toes on my left foot).
On my health front, I also got diagnosed with and treated such from Breast Cancer.
However, I have always maintained a never say die attitude. Full marks to my wife, Sharwari, who has stood behind me as a rock, making it possible for both of us to face all these life challenges.

‘Dil Aakhir Dil Hai’ (1982) was produced by M S Gulati and was directed by Esmayeel Shroff. The cast included Rakhee, Nasiruddin Shah, Parveen Babi, Jalal Agha, Rehman, A K Hangal, Deena Pathak, Dinesh Hingoo, Ramesh Tiwari, Murad, Leela Mishra etc.
In an interview with The Times of India, which was published on October 27, 2022, Nasiruddin Shah has revealed that he was cast in the film only because Rishi Kapoor had backed out from the film. Film’s director, Esmayeel Shroff propped him up by saying that he can do any type of roles. But as the film progressed, he and the director realised that he was a misfit in the film. Probably, this was one of the reasons that film failed at the box office.

We in this blog have achieved several milestones, but this milestone is something in its own league. Today we are celebrating a humongous individual milestone. With this post, Lata Mangeshkar reaches 4000 songs as a playback singer in this blog !
More than one decade ago, She had touched 1000 songs in the blog as the blog itself touched 3000 songs. Imagine, today she alone touches 4000 songs in the blog.
I had run a series on Lata Mangeshkar’s songs (yearwise) in the blog. That series, which ran every monday for 63 weeks (viz for one year and three months). In that series we had an indepth look at the list of songs that Lata Mangeshkar had sung in Hindi movies.

Hullo Atuldom
Acclaimed actress of the 1950s, who was much-loved even after she hung-up her acting boots in 1970, turns a year older-enters her 93rd year on this earth on 13th August. She was loved as much for her acting as her proficiency in dancing- she is a trained, disciplined Bharat Natyam dancer. Recently, in February 2024, at age 90, she took part in Raag Sewa performance series at Ram Mandir, Ayodhya, with a Bharat Natyam dance recital, and its video soon became viral on social media. She is a lady (from the older generation) who’s work I simply adore. The spark in her eyes when she is dancing is something out-of-this-world.
She was born in Madras (present day Chennai) to Mandyam Dhati Raman and Vasundhara Devi – an actress of the 1940s (herself). She was primarily raised by her grandmother Yadugiri Devi. At age 7, she was chosen to perform a classical Indian dance for Pope Pius XII while her mother was an audience, in 1940, at Vatican City. She learned Bharatnatyam from V. Ramaiah Pillai and Carnatic music from D. K. Pattammal, K. V. Narayanaswamy, M. S. Subbulakshmi, K. P. Kittappa Pillai and other such learned teachers of those times, under the guidance of her grandmother.

‘Kasauti’ (1974) was produced and directed by Arbind Sen under the banner of Lalit Kala Mandir. The cast included Hema Malini and Amitabh Bachchan in lead roles supported by Pran, Sonia Sahni, Vijay Sharma, Ramesh Deo, Sulcohana, Bipin Gupta, Satyen Kappu, Sapru, Murad, Mohan Choti, Bharat Bhushan, Viju Khote, Janakidas, Mac Mohan etc. This was Amitabh Bachchan’s first film with Hema Malini in a leading role.
Producer-director Aravind Sen picked up Amitabh Bachchan after watching his role in ‘Saat Hindustani’ (1969) and Reshma Aur Shera’ (1971). During the making of the film, Amitabh Bachchan’s two films, ‘Bansi Birju’ (1972) and ‘Ek Nazar’ (1972) were released which flopped on the box office. The distributor who financed ‘Kasauti’ (1974), got panicky and withheld further release of funds for shooting. Aravind Sen was still confident about the success of his next release film, ‘Bandhe Haathh’ (1972) which also flopped. During this period, Aravind Sen suffered a heart attack which led to further delay in completing the film. Fortunately for him, Amitabh Bachchan’s ‘Zanjeer’ (1973) and ‘Namak Haraam’ (1973) became super hit films and the shooting of the film was resumed. The film was released on August 9, 1974.
