Sureeli Suman – 09
————————
His Master’s Voice (HMV) in those days was producing many Devotional and Non-Film Geet-Gazals Albums. In later years the company slowly discontinued such releases, purely due to commercial reasons.
In 1970 HMV released an Album of Suman Kalyanpur viz ‘Swar Bahar’. It had ten melodious songs, five in each category, Devotional and Geet-Gazals. In addition to Meera Bhajan, other songs by lyricist Anjan and Yogesh were included in the Album. It was a treasure for the Music enthusiast like me and I had acquired it in the first week of its release.

I am presenting a dance song ‘ kya kya kahoon re Kanha’ from PIYA MILAN (1958). I came across this song just a couple of days ago while searching for rare songs of the 40s on Dr. Surjit Singh’s website. Listening to this song was like ‘Song to Tickle your Memory’ as Sudhir ji has called it in one of the series for his articles. I had heard this song on Vividh Bharti in my younger days but had completely forgotten about the existence of this song. Fortunately, the video clip of this song is available which revealed that this was a classical dance song.

Sureeli Suman – 4
————————–
1961 mythological Black and White film ‘Jai Bhawani’ was directed by Dhirubhai Desai, under ‘Prabha Pictures’ banners. The star-cast included Jayashri Gadkar, Manhar Desai, Lata Sinha, Sapru, Veena, Niranjan Sharma, Ram Mohan, Master Dabbar etc. HFGK is silent about the lyricists, but the other source on internet gives that credit to ‘Gopal Singh Nepali’ (1926-1963). The music is credited to S Mohinder. Three out of eight songs are already discussed on this Blog and this one, a solo by Suman Kalyanpur, will be the fourth one.

So the experience repeats itself yet once again. Search and locate, and listen, as many songs as you may. There still will be many more songs that will surprise you. This song is coming based on a request from a far away land. A friend and visitor on the blog from West Indies, the name of the gentleman is Ramdass, has requested to locate this song, and to post it.
