This beautiful haunting melody is sung by Asha Bhosle, is written by M K Javed and composed by Usha Khanna. This is from “Aaja Sanam” (1975).
This movie was written and directed by Yusuf Naqvi for producer S. A. Mahmood. The Music Director was Usha Khanna and there were three lyricists – Indeevar, M. K. Javed, Kafil Azar.
Aaja Sanam starred Feroz Khan as Dr. Satish, Tanuja as Shanti, Deven Verma as Dr. Kaushal Verma with Mukri, Sulochana Chatterjee, Bipin Gupta, and Indu Shivraj also featuring prominently.

Today’s wonderful song is from the movie ‘Dharti-1946’. It is a missing the beloved category of song where the lady wants to get a letter written to her beloved requesting him to write a letter to her.
‘Dharti-1946’ was directed by Manibhai Vyas and it had Mumtaz Shanti, Trilok Kapoor, Padma Banerji, Vikram Kapoor, Baby Anwari, Sheikh Hussain, Pandit Iqbal, Jugal Kishore, Lakshman, Mustafa, Leela Shinde, and Tipnis. Lyrics for this film were penned by Pandit Indra and Music was composed by Bulo C Rani. Lyrics of all the eleven songs are by Pandit Indra. Geet Kosh Vol-II (1941-1950) mentions the singer’s name for nine songs and they are Manna Dey, Hamida Bano, Mohantara Talpade, and A.R. Ojha. Today’s song is from the film Veer Ghatotkach (aka Surekha Haran)-1949. The meaning of Ghatotkach is a person with a bald head.
The film was made by Homi Wadia’s Basant Pictures and it was directed by Nanabhai Bhatt, a veteran in directing such films. Music was by S.N.Tripathi, who, as usual, also acted in this film.
S N Tripathi was an actor, director, composer and a singer too. He acted in 83 films, sang 13 songs in 7 films, directed 18 films and gave music to 111 films, composing 863 songs. In the early cinema, we had many such multi-faceted artists.
The cast of the film was Vasantrao pehelwan (as Ghatotkach), Shahu Modak, Niranjan Sharma, Meena Kumari (as Surekha), Sumati Gupte, H.Prakash, S.N.Tripathi, Shyam sunder Sulochana and many others.

The name of the director for this movie is not given. However some sources on internet mention the name of the director as Kumar Menon. and the banner as ‘T.K. Screen Classics’. HFGK gives the cast of this movie as Bharat Bhooshan, Indu Pal, Krishna Murari, Beena Pal, Kesari, Shivraj, Sapru and others.
Geet Kosh lists six songs for this movie, leaving space for the possibility of more songs for this movie (yet to be known). Music for this movie is composed by S.K. Pal. The lyrics writers for this movie are Bharat Vyas, Vishwamitr Aadil, Ratan Piya, and Bharti Devi. Records for the songs for this movie were released by Columbia Records.
