This song is a very well known song and a song that has the ability to move its listeners. Of course I am talking about the audio. I had not seen the picturisation till now. Now that I have seen the picturuisation, it turns out that the picturisation is quite moving too.

“Raaz” was a Rajesh Khanna movie produced in 1967, before he had become a superstar. In those days, Rafi used to be the playback singer for male lead, and that is indeed the case in this movie.

This song “akele hain chale aao” has been sung by Rafi as well as Lata. Personally, I like the Rafi version more.

There are many occasions I am told that this particular song was so wonderful, and I nod my head sagely, though in reality I may not even have a clue what song is being talked about. For instance, I have been told that ” bol meri taqdeer me kya hai” from “Hariyali aur raasta” is a wonderful song. I nodded my head knowledgeably at this suggestion by Raja though I doubted I had ever heard this song.

This movie “Manzil” was one of the unsuccessful movies of Amitabh Bachchan, but this one song from this movie, viz “Rimjhim gire saawan” has become the stuff of legends already. It is one of the first songs that comes to mind when one thinks of rain songs.

This song from “Holi Aayi re” appeared as a solo as well as a duet in the movie. The solo song sung by Mukesh is the one that became more popular and I too like the solo song more.

Mukesh, as usual, paints a vivid picture of the feelings that the lyrics of indeewar seek to convey. The way his voice can almost make you enter the mind of the character and visualise what is going through there is simply amazing. There were those who said that Mukesh was classically not trained, but such people miss the real fact. The fact is, Mukesh’s ability to express different feelings in all their nuances was simply awesome and that was the reason why majority of his songs struck a chord with the listeners.

The lyrics are sad and poignant, as well as philosophical. Our near and dear ones have to leave us one day, sooner or later. This is inevitable and we better get reconciled to it. Holding on to them forever is just not feasible. The only thing one can do is to hold on to their memories.

This song talks of the sweet memories that our loved one may leave behind once it is time for her to depart to the other world.

It is one of the most moving songs of all time. It was the first sad song that I became aware of as a very young child. I witnessed a real life situation in which two brothers had a fight. A few days later, the younger brother left the home forever, never to return. He had left a note informing his elder brother about his decision. The note also contained words of this song- “chal ud ja re panchi ke ab ye desh hua began..” Whenever I hear this song, I am reminded of that real life incident.

Yesterday was 15th august, the independence day of India, and today, the very next day, is another important festival of India, namely Rakhi or rakshabandhan. As far as Bollywood songs are concerned, there are quite a few Rakhi songs that have made their mark. But this song, perhaps the oldest one, continues to set the benchmark, and this benchmark is yet to be bettered.

So enjoy this fabulous rakhi song sung by Lata. Lyrics are by Shailendra and music is by Shankar Jaikishan. The movie is Chhoti Behan ( 1959). wow, they do not make songs like this now a days.

The lyrics would really move you, in case you get the context of the song. And one need not know the story line to get the context. Just look at the video. The actors Rajesh Khanna and Rekha, as well as the singers Kishore and Lata make the context so clear that I need not fill in the background details. Very powerful emotions have been penned in very simple language by Gulshan Bawra. It was one of the last hits of R D Burman before the trend of chaalu songs lashed Bollywood like a thunderstorm.
