By now I have posted more than a thousand songs from the golden era of Bollywood music. It can be easily noticed that lyrics played a very important roles in the success of these songs. In 1980s and later, lyrics lost its importance in the minds of the music directors and from that time onwards, songs lost their soul and their longevity. However great the singing and music may be, unless the singer and music director has a good song to work with, the song cannot hope to become popular.

The movie “Faraar” is one of the lesser known movies of Amiatbh Bachchan. In fact, any movie just off the beaten track tended to end up becoming a lesser known movie, since the Bollywood spectators were just not mature enough to patronise movies that were even slightly different.

It is unbelievable, but this song is from a movie 70 years old. Yes, “Dushman” (1939) was released 70 years ago. How time fhas flown. It seems just a few days ago ( but was actually 40 years ago) when I used to scoff at such songs though such songs were just 30 years old at that time.

Making Bollywood movies is not everyone’s cup of tea. One needs solid financial backing in order to make a movie that people may feel interested in watching. Most successful movies are those which are made by established producers well endowed with financial muscle.
