There is a class of people, who make faces when a Mythological film is mentioned. According to them, seeing such films is ” outdated ” and ” Fundamentalist ‘. They feel that those who see such films are way behind the times. These people forget that in the so called ” advanced” world of Hollywood, even today,Mythological,costume and Historical films are regularly produced. Only thing is that these films are no longer advertised on the same scale as was the case a few decades back.

Sometimes the temptation to write an article about an artist is to start with a sampler of the fabulous, memorable songs by him/her, to represent the variety, the flavor and the endearing memories that artist has created as a legacy and a treasure presented for generations to enjoy. But when one is writing about an artist of the stature of Rafi, or Lata, or Naushad, giving even an extended sampler for such artists is like lighting a lamp in bright sunlight (literally ‘suraj ko diya dikhana’). There are a few artists of such eminence that need no introductions through a sampler list of their songs. A name that definitely belongs to this category is Majrooh Sb.
Remembering Majrooh Sultanpuri on the anniversary of his passing away today (24th May).

Culture and Religion have a close relationship. The commonest points of Religion, followed by a majority for time immemorial, becomes culture of the nation. Raas Garba, Ganesh Utsav, Diwali celebrations and Indian Calendar New Year days in respective regions are no more a matter of Religion by now. They have become the cultural heritage of the country.
