Cast included Ranjan, Vijaya Chowdhary, Ramayan Tiwari, Helen, Majnu, Kammo, Shammi, Mridula, Tuntun etc. The VCD of the film is available online but quality of both the video and audio is not good. Spy thriller as a genre of films has rarely been attempted during the first three decades of Hindi talkie films. The huge success of Eon Productions’ spy thriller films of James Bond series like ‘Dr. No.’ (1962), ‘From Russia With Love’ (1963), ‘Goldfinger’ (1964) etc when they were released in India prompted the Hindi film producers to make the films in this genre in the 1960s. The Indo-China war of 1962 and Indi-Pak war of 1965 created favourable situations for spy thriller films. Some of the Hindi films which were made especially during the second half of 1960s were ‘Farz’ (1967), ‘Spy in Goa’ (1967), ‘Spy in Rome’ (1968), ‘Golden Eyes Secret Agent 077’ (1968),’CID Agent 302’ (1968), ‘Aankhen’ (1968), ’Ham Saaya’ (1968), ‘Shatranj’ (1969) etc.

Filmistan Studio was formed by Shashadhar Mukherjee, Ashok Kumar, Rai Bahadur Chunnilal and Gyan Mukherjee in 1943 after they left Bombay Talkies due to differences with Devika Rani. She had taken over the charge of the Bombay Talkies after the death of her husband, Himanshu Rai in 1940. ‘Chal Chal Re Naujawaan’ (1944) was Filmistan’s maiden film. Thereafter, Filmistan had produced box office successful films such as ‘Do Bhai’ (1947), ‘Shaheed’ (1948), ‘Shabnam’ (1949). Samaadhi’ (1950) and ‘Sargam’(1950). After the death of Rai Bahadur Chunnilal in 1950, Tolaram Jalan took over the Filmistan while Shashadhar Mukherjee continued as its Creative Head. Post-1950, Filmistan produced successful films like ‘Anarkali’ (1953), ‘Naastik’ (1954), ‘Naagin’ (1954), ‘Munimji’ (1955), ‘Tumsa Nahi Dekha’ (1957), ‘Paying Guest’ (1957) etc.

‘Love And Murder’ (1966) was an obscure film which I came to know very recently due to its couple of pleasing dance songs composed by O P Nayyar. The film was produced by B K Adarsh under his banner, Adarshlok and was directed by Raja Paranjpe. The cast included Ramesh Deo, Jaymala in lead roles, supported by Prithviraj Kapoor, Heeralal, P Kailash, Helen, Kammo, Chandrakant, Asit Sen, Edwina etc. One of the features of this film’s marketing was that the publicity posters of the film contained only the name of producer, director and the music director. The names of even the main actors were not mentioned.

Today (1 March 2025) is the 83rd birthday of Indrani Mukherjee (born on March 01, 1942). I have watched some of her 1960s’ films mostly having pious and graceful roles. She was born in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) in a Bengali Brahmin family. Her father was a doctor and her mother, a housewife. She did her early schooling in Allahabad and completed her high school studies in Kolkata. From her childhood, she was interested in Hindi films.
