Recently our dear Arunkumarji had begun a new series where in he was featuring songs of those actors who are not trained singers but who have sung a line or two in some song or other in their own voice. That means basically he is showing us the image se hatke side of the actors. The song which I am writing about is also image se hatke for the actor concerned.

In Hindi movies, we have examples of movie makers who would ensure that their movie titles began with some particular letters of the alphabet. Thus J Omprakash’s movies will always begin with “A”, and in case of Arjun Hingorani movies, the title would be of three words, each beginning with K. Then there were movie makers who regarded certain words as lucky for them. For instance Sawan Kumar fancied the word “Sautan” in his movies while producer Girsh Jain regarded the word “Khiladi” as his lucky word in his movie titles.

Under the banner of Navketan ( Navketan Films, Navketan International and Navketan Enterprises), there were many films which have become immortals. Films like ‘Nau Do Gyarah (1957), ‘Kaala Baazar (1960), ‘Tere Ghar Ke Saamne’ (1963), ‘Guide’ (1965) and ‘Jewel Thief’ (1967) have been known for the good story and screen play, good music and fast paced direction from Vijay Anand in particular, the song picturisation in these films. Strange are the ways of humans. It has its own mechanism of triggering some memory. I was listening to some songs which have no connection, with the one under discussion, then I thought of some other song from the film ‘Krodhi’ that led me to ‘ na fankaar tujh sa tere baad aaya…. Mohammed Rafi tu bahot yaad aaya ‘ (Another ‘Krodhi’) and some how from here I remembered the words and tune of this song, ‘saathhi re gham nahin karnaa ‘ Sounded like a Madan Mohan tune (unused song in the film ‘ Parwana ‘ – jis din se main ne tum ko dekhaa hai).

‘Kaali Ghata'(1980) was a suspense thriller movie with Rekha having a double role. Shashi Kapoor played the male lead. Music was by Laxmikant Pyarelal and lyricist was Anand Bakshi. Actually my favourtie song in this film is “Kaali Ghata Chaayi prem rut aayi” Which is either a solo Rafi or Lata -Rafi duet. Various links are giving different description of that song. I sent the lyrics of that song long ago, but it is posted recently on the blog. Listening to the haunting music and echo sound of that song on our old Philips Radio was an amazing experience. That sound still haunts me and I have heard the song many times on FM radio too but it is not the same.
