“Zakhmee” (1975) had quite a few wonderful songs. For long I thought that these songs were composed by R D Burman. It was much later that I realised that this movie in fact was the debut movie of Bappi Lahiri as a music director.

The movie “Faraar” is one of the lesser known movies of Amiatbh Bachchan. In fact, any movie just off the beaten track tended to end up becoming a lesser known movie, since the Bollywood spectators were just not mature enough to patronise movies that were even slightly different.

When the makers of this movie made this movie, no one was left in any doubt that the movie was based on Mrs Indira Gandhi’s life, with Suchitra Sen playing her role. The movie was released during emergency, and to this day, I am amazed at the risk that the makers of this movie took. Another movie, “Kissa Kursi ka” which mocked Indira Gandhi and her son, did not meet with the same kind fate with the censors at that time.

This is an absolutely iconic song from “Amaanat”. If I used the word iconic song, then chances were bright that Ravi must be the music ditrector, and that indeed turns out to be the case for this song. Sahir Ludhianvi had written this song, and Rafi had sung this song which is easily one
of the most memorable songs on the topic of opportunists females taking advantage of gullible suitors.

The first time Ravindra Jain worked with Kishore Kumar was in “Chor machaaye shor”. What songs Kishore Kumar sang in that movie ! “Le jaayenge, le jaayenge” became an icon of an icon song and helped many careers. “Sholay” was a movie known for its dialogues and for its thrill a minute storyline, but it had some songs too, in case anyone noticed. And these songs too gelled well with the storyline. And come to think of it, Sholay had a dosti song, a holi song, a Helen song, a teasing song- in short, songs of different genres that were considered a must in any masala bollywood movies were very much there in Sholay.
