Today, the 3rd of July is the 72nd birthday of Amit Kumar Ganguly, popularly known as Amit Kumar. Amit Kumar is the son of Kishore Kumar and Ruma Ganguly. Like his father, Amit started singing from an early age and he used to sing at Durga Pooja festivals in Calcutta. At one such function arranged by Bengali actor “Mahanayak” Uttam Kumar, the audience continued requesting encores. While his mother complained that he was singing “filmy” songs, his father decided to bring him to Bombay.

Songs Repeated in Hindi Films – 31
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
Reuse phenomena is quite a prevalent feature in Hindi cinema. We are already at the 31st episode of this series, and I must say we have just scratched the surface. There are reuse songs, there are partial reuse songs, there are medleys of songs, and even in some cases, there is a wholesale reuse in the entire film. A great example is the 2002 film ‘Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar’. Bharat Shah, the producer of this film is an out and out die hard fan of Pancham Da, and this film showcases a dozen earlier hit songs of RD Burman.

Ameen Sayani (21 December 1932- 20 February 2024) recently left for the heavenly abode on 20 february 2024. It goes without saying that Ameen Sayani was easily one of the most important personalities in the field of HFM. Instead of coming up with a hastily prepared article as a tribute to Ameen Sayani, I thought that I should pay him a tribute by discussing Binaca geetmala, a programme that was a musical phenomenon of our times. When we think of Ameen Sayani, we think of Binaca geetmala and vice versa.

Mukesh and his Actors – 01
——————————————-
Well, the Halley’s comet is back on the blog.
So much so that it did not feature in nearly two centuries of latest posts. Reasons? Aren’t they cliches already on the blog?
Incidentally, speaking of the real macro universe comet itself, it last appeared in 1986 and is expected to pass by the pale blue dot next in July 2061. Second week of December this year, it reached the farthest point from the sun known as aphelion, thus beginning its journey towards the inner solar system.
So, the date for sighting arguably the most famous comet is set for July 2061 for earthlings alive then.
Coming back to the blog, we start with a new series Mukesh and his Actors. This has been a task which I had been contemplating for years and remained a non-starter mainly because I could not decide as to which actor, I should take up for the debut post.

In Hindi film industry, there are some well-known cinematographers who have turned directors. Some of them had a successful stint as director while some had to revert to cinematography. A few of the names who graduated from cinematographer to director were Nitin Bose, Bimal Roy, Fali Mistry, Ravi Nagaich, Govind Nihalani, Santosh Sivan etc. Some of them worked simultaneously as a cinematographer and a director in some films.

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Romeo In Sikkim-1975)
——————————————-——————————————
Today’s song is from the movie ‘Romeo In Sikkim-1975’. This movie has been introduced recently on the blog with a song sung by Mukesh on 25.06.2023. Today we add the second song from this movie on the blog. In fact this song was the first song that I had drafted for sharing. But when I noticed that this movie had a song sung by Mukesh, then I shared that song with our dear Mahesh ji so that it could get introduced on the blog during the‘birth centenary year’ of the legendary singer Mukesh.

# Bhoole-Bisre Geet # (Memories of Binaca Geetmala)

Today’s song is from the ‘1975’ movie ‘Ponga Pandit’. I have not watched this movie yet, but I vaguely recall this name from my childhood days. I was aware of a couple of songs from this movie. Songs of this movie were played frequently on ‘loud-speakers’. This movie, I think was not a ‘successful movie’ in terms of collections.

Mukesh and his Composers – 26
There are many songs of Mukesh which I avoid listening too often. For every time I listen to them, I like to savour the magic in his voice afresh. Some of such songs are “Aansoo Bhari Hain Ye Jeevan Ki Raahen“, “Jaane Kahaan Gaye Wo Din“, “Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaaye“, “Ye Mera Deewaanapan Hai” and a host of many other songs. I know that the sample of above quoted songs are quite familiar and well-known, but then there are dozens of songs in the 40’s and 50’s which have additional flavor and uniqueness in them. It is extremely difficult to describe in words what effect the mind and soul experience on listening to such songs. Mukesh did sing them for situations in the film. What remains today of these movies is mainly the vocal impulses of his melodious voice.
