Today (6 september) is the birth anniversary of Yash Johar (6 september 1929- 26 june 2004). His real name was Anand Raj Johar. He worked in Ajanta Arts (Sunil Dutt’s banner) and later Navketan (Dev Anand’s banner), before he established his own production house called Dharma Productions in 1976.

After the box office failure of “Mera Naam Joker”(1970), Raj Kapoor was a shaken and disillusioned man. When he decided to make a comeback, he decided to play safe and he made a teenage love story and not a serious philosophical movie. “Abdullah” (1980) was a movie that received quite a bit of publicity during its making, but people lost interest once it was released. I do not know why. This movie never came to my town, which is normally the facte of B grade movies and not a movie which was produced and directed by an A grade Producer like err Sanjay Khan :).
