Teri har adaa hai haseen

This is a nice timepass song from 1981. The movie is called “Daulat” and this song is a duet sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle and is picturised on Vinod Khanna and Zeenat Aman.

Zindagi ye zindagi

The movie is called “Daulat” and this song is an archtypical villain’s den song. Hero and heroine are in “disguise” of sorts and the lady keeps gesturing to the hero during her singing. I do not know how successful she is in communicating that way. The villain and his gangsters appear smarter than usual, and they have taken up positions as waiters in the club where this song is being sung.

Somehow I feel that “Umrao Jaan” was to Rekha what “Paakeza” was to Meena Kumari. Both these movies were of a similar genre, showing a courtesan singing Mujra in a kotha.

I just expounded on my theory that Amitabh Bachchan tended to have quite a few “friendship” songs in his movies. In fact, the title of two of his movies themselves were friendship based- viz “Dostana” and “Yaraana”, both meaning “friendship”. Of course, there were “friendship” songs even in those Amitabh movies whose titles were different- viz in movies like “Zanjeer”, “Hera Pheri”,”Ram Balram” etc.

Early years of 1980 saw a passing fad of reincarnation stories in Bollywood, what with movies like “Karz”, “Kudrat” etc released at more or less the same time.

1980 was the decade when I started losing track of bollywood movies and its songs. Gone was the meticulous record keeping of songs etc. Songs and movies in that decade passed like a blur before my eyes, without registering much in my brain.

In Bollywood movies, jail inmates are often shown as comedians, and there are a few comedy songs in Bollywood movies sung by the jailbirds, viz in “Vishwanath”.
“Kaaliya” too has a jail song, but here it is a philosophical song. This song is not sung by the hero ( Amitabh) or any other main character of the movie.

It is a beautiful song from a 1981 movie called Dhanwaan. Rajesh Khanna was making yet another gallant attempt to regain his lost position, Rakesh Roshan was making yet another attempt to revive an almost non existent career and Reena Roy was acting in yet another sensitive role ( unlike how she began her career).

“Naseeb” was supposed to be a sequel of “Amar Akbar Anthony” with the same cast of brothers. But unfortunately Vinod Khanna was into following Acharya Rajneesh those days and so he had to be replaced by Shatrughan Sinha. Amitabh and Rishi Kapoor continued from the previous movie as did Pran from the previous movie as their father.
As if bringing together a big star cast of leading stars was not enough, the song “John Jaani Janardan” brings together a galaxy of other current and retired filmstars of Bollywood. In fact this song has been aped in the 2008 movie “Om Shanti Om” too, though not with the same effect.
