‘Rachna’ (1983) was produced by Girdhar Bhatia and Pravin Paul and was directed by Satish who also wrote story and screenplay. The cast included Anil Kapoor and Beena in lead roles supported by Deepak Shankar (debutant), Pravin Paul, Nazir Hussain, Shivraj, Birbal, Lalita Kumari, Indira Bansal, Tabassum, Gufi Paintal, Savita Bajaj with the friendly appearances of Iftekhar, Chandrashekhar, Shammi, Asit Sen, Keshto Mukherjee and Jagdeep. It was Anil Kapoor’s first released film in a lead role though he had signed first for a lead role in ‘Kahan Kahan Se Guzar Gaya’ (1986) which had a delayed release. This was the only lead role Beena had performed in her entire Hindi film career. Incidentally, in ‘Lovers’ (1983) which was released in the same year, Beena had played the role of the mother to Kumar Gaurav.

“Gham ki raahon mein
mujhe chod ke jaanewale”

This forgotten beauty is sung by Kishore Kumar. A wonderfully written song by Naqsh Lyallpuri and composed by the very talented jodi of Basu Manohari. This hidden gem is from “Jeena Hai Pyar Mein” from 1983.

Jeena Hai Pyar Mein” (1983) was produced by S A Gandhi and directed by Krishna Naidu. The film starred Tariq Shah, Shoma Anand, Prema Narayan, Suresh Oberoi, etc

Hullo Atuldom

I have undertaken a rather difficult task- writing a post to remember the legendary Guru Dutt & trying to pay a tribute to him in my own humble capacity as I am someone who got acquainted with the actor, director, producer, choreographer, and writer much after his time on this earth.

He was born on 9th July 1925, in Bangalore, to Shivashanker Rao Padukone who was a headmaster and a banker & Vasanthi, a teacher and writer. At birth he was called Vasant Kumar & his family was, essentially, Konkani Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmins; but as his family shifted to Bhowanipore (Calcutta) when he was a child, he learnt & spoke fluent Bengali. (That possibly explains why I initially thought he was a Bengali). He had a sister Lalita Lajmi- (a painter) and 3 younger brothers, Atma Ram (a director known for ‘Umang’, ‘Aarop’ etc.), Devi (a producer known for ‘Masoom’, ‘Aakrosh’ etc.), and Vijay. Vasant Kumar’s name was changed to Gurudatta Padukone following a childhood accident, the belief being that it was an auspicious choice. Director & screenwriter Shyam Benegal is second cousin of Vasant Kumar a.k.a. as Guru Dutt & Amrita Rao (actress of the new generation) is the grand daughter of Guru Dutt’s cousin.

#Desh Kee Mittee Kee Khushboo#

India is a land of vast diversity in its culture and traditions. However, the underlying theme of Unity in this diversity has remained intact for centuries. Diversity of India has enriched the country and has provided the glue to bind the country together. There are different languages, different religions, diverse culture and diverse customs and traditions. But, among these diversities there are festivals and pilgrimages that bond us together spiritually.

(Celebrating Pancham’s 86th Birth Anniversary 27.06.2025 – 12)
——————————————————————————————————

Today 27th June 2025 is the eighty-sixth birth anniversary of the genius music director Rahul Dev Burman. He was born on 27th June1939 and passed away on 4th January 1994. As a tribute to him we have been presenting songs composed by Pancham from this morning throughout the day.

His creations have been our companions in our joys and sorrows. We have found solace in his compositions when we felt low and his songs have filled us with hopes and inspiration when we needed to be inspired. When we needed solitude. his music has transported us there. His music has gifted us memorable songs for all occasions. His music will keep bringing joys to music lovers in future as well.

Hullo Atuldom

“Pukaar” is a title that appears five times on the blog’s ‘LIST OF SONGS MOVIEWISE’. The title has been used in movies released in 1939, 1983 & 2000; there have been two unreleased films with this title who’s years have been given as 1970 & 1971. Meer Sahab, R. D. Burman & A. R. Rahman were the music director for the 1939, 1983 & 2000 released ‘Pukaar’ (don’t know if there is a plural possible for the word ‘Pukaar’). Naushad & Ejaz Ashok were the music directors of the unreleased ‘Pukaar’. All the films with the title ‘Pukaar’ that are on the blog are only one or two songs old. (Here I would like to mention that I am speaking of the films posted & I don’t know if there are any other films with the title ‘Pukaar’ yet to appear on the blog).

The song in this post is a nice composition, albeit a lesser heard song that has been forgotten alongwith its movie which had failed at the box office. This movie is ‘Jaan E Jaan’ or ‘Nikammaa’. This movie was launched in the mid-seventies with the title ‘Nikammaa’, but it got delayed and after completion it was finally released in the year 1983 with the title ‘Jaan E Jaan’. If one watches the movie for first fifteen minutes one can find why it was titled as ‘Nikammaa’ earlier, because its hero Raju, in-spite of being graduate doesn’t have any job and even if somebody recommends him for a job he loses it because he is naive and a simpleton(read stupid).
