Hullo Atuldom
Beginning this post with a few thoughts that have been running through my head. What is the time or age to define something as old?
I have been observing people around me, for the last few years of my better half’s tenure, at his last workplace. I am saying “last workplace” as he has decided to call it a day; inspite of loving what he has achieved over the last 45 years. People consider him young enough to open up about their joys & sorrows. His colleagues cannot believe or don’t want him to hang his boots yet. Of course, I am very proud of all that his co-workers (he doesn’t call them subordinates) have to say about him.

Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan have worked together in 8 films before they got married in April 2007. Their first film was ‘Dhaai Akshar Prem Ke’ (2000). Just before their marriage, they worked together in ‘Guru’ (2007). In this article, I am taking up for discussion, their second film as a lead pair, ‘Kuchh Na Kaho’ (2003). The film was produced by Ramesh Sippy and was directed by Rohan Sippy. The other supporting cast included Arbaaz Khan, Satish Shah, Suhasini Mulay, Himani Shivpuri, Jaspal Bhatti, Meghna Malik, Tanaaz Irani, Jennifer Winget, Razak Khan, Gautami Kapoor, Ejaz Khan etc.

‘Yuva’ (2004) was produced by Mani Ratnam and G Srinivasan under the banner of Madras Talkies and was directed by Mani Ratnam. The film was simultaneously shot in Tamil as ‘Aaytha Ezhuthu’ (2004) with a different cast. The film was loosely based on the life story of George Reddy, a student leader who was a gold medalist in his post-graduation in Nuclear Physics from Osmania University, Hyderabad. He died young at the age of 25 by a stab wound in his college campus.

AR Rehman – The Musician of 21st Century – 3
84th Birthday of Waheeda Rehman on 3rd February 2022
46th Birthday of Abhishek Bachchan on 5th February 2022
The songs of the movie ‘Delhi-6’ are among my favorite music scores by AR Rehman. I rate this qawwaali from the movie, for which I wrote a post back in 2012 as among the best of hindi film songs in this genre. The links of two songs posted in the blog are given below:
Arziyaan saari main chehre pe likh ke laaya hoon (Delhi 6)
Ye Dilli hai mere yaar (Delhi 6)
Taal Pe Jab Ye Zindgani Chali

‘Pehli Baar’ (First Time) is a program that is aired on a channel of the DTH service that I am subscribed to. It gives background about how some celebrities met or got together for the first time ever. Of course the incidents, and content in that program is possibly stuff that many of us have read over the years over-and-over again, and also in all the Filmfares, Screen (the magazines of yesteryear), Star & Style, Stardust, Cine Blitz etc. that were available in all the circulating libraries of those times. Stories like how Nargis had batter in her hand when she opened the door for Raj Kapoor, how Balraj Sahni saw Johnny Walker mimicking actors as he sold tickets in Mumbai’s BEST buses etc.

Clad in starched white kurta and pyjama with an unshaven face, his appearance gives an impression of a Bengali intellectual. His early association with Bimal Roy, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Hemant Kumar and Salil Chowdhary supported that impression of mine until one day I came to know that he was born in a Sikh family in pre-partition Punjab.
Yes, he is Sampooran Singh Kalra, better known by his pen name, Gulzar (born on 18/08/1934) who turns 85 today and is still active in pursuit of his first love – writing poems and short stories. He continues to be associated with Hindi films with occasional indulgence as a lyricist. His association with Hindi films started, first as a lyricist followed by screen-play/dialogue writer and finally as a producer/director. He has already spent nearly 6 decades in Hindi film industry and this association is continuing.

I hope to bring in a party mood with today’s post. We are celebrating something very important. We are wishing our leader good health, good times, good infrastructure in the form of uninterrupted power supply and good broadband facilities. We are also wishing that he never loses interest in adding new posts and finds for us hitherto unheard songs from rare movies and gives us rare combinations in terms of music directors, singers, actors etc. And I promise on behalf of fellow followers of the blog that we will not stop following the blog, keep sending new farmaishes (requests), and the regulars will also help you keep track of upcoming milestones, birthdays anniversaries etc.
I am sure I have the support of all Atulites in what I have promised our dear Atulji. So, let us all wish him a very Happy Birthday. May you relentlessly keep the blog moving. 🙂

Hullo Atuldom
Today (5 february 2018) is Monday, first day of a working week and the song with this post is asking for a weekend. I had fallen in love with it the minute I heard it about 2/3 years back in 2015. I had immediately noted its lyrics so that I could use it at the first opportunity.
This song is neither unique nor rare. It is from a movie where the young actor has co-starred with a senior actor whom he had probably addressed as uncle in the 1980s/90s. The junior actor was a bigger fan of the senior than the junior was of his own father’s.

Hullo to all the guys and gals of Atuldom
The writing bug has hit me after a long time.
Had an enjoyable January. To begin with had a quiet ushering in of the New Year followed by birthday time. So each had a small outing attached to it.
Then the most eventful Sunday….17th January 2016. A day which was under planning since October 2015 when we had a mail from Guruji of his impending visit to Bangalore via Hosur and Hyderabad. This time the group met at a new venue— Residence of Gajendra Khanna. Now here I feel like mentioning that I am floored by his collection of Vinyl Records and the number of WORKING TURNTABLES or Record Players as I used to call them as a kid. Another thing that should be mentioned is his wonderful idea of how to get more people to enjoy an event and the thought behind getting us live on YOUTUBE that day. We went live that day at about 11. And instantly Avinashji, Ben Katie, Atulji YYIIPPEEEE master and a few of Gajendra’s friends (I don’t know exactly how many or who all) hooked on to us. The (physical) attendees were Shenoyji, Arunji (Guruji), Rajaji, Gajendraji and a group of music lovers whom I got acquainted with for the first time that day.
