“Chitchor” was a Rajshree productions movie that introduced Amol Palekar, Zareena Wahab and Vijayendra Ghatge to Bollywood. Yesudas, who had sung a few songs for Salil Chowdhary made his mark as a playback singer in Bollywood with this movie.

Aane waala pal jaanewala hai

“Golmaal” was a light hearted movie, and I doubt that its songs were planned to be of anything more than timepass nature. But trust the Gulzar-R D Burman combination to take their jobs so seriously that they came up with this song in a timepass situation which went on to become an evergreen composition. In fact, for a long time, I used to wonder why people take this song so seriously. Finally I have shrugged my shoulders and reconciled myself to the fact that this song must be treated as a serious classic song.

Here is a fantastic song from “Gharonda”. Neither the movie, nor the song were mainstream ones by the standards of 1977, but this song and this movie struck the right chords in the hearts of the audience.

1970s saw the emergence of small budget family entertainers sans fights and violence. Amol Palekar and Vidhya Sinha were two of the leading “stars” of such movies. Two of their most memorable movies together were “Rajnigandha” and “Chhoti si baat”. These two movies can infact be treated as extensions of each other, that is how much these two movies had in common.
