Today’s song is unique. It is from the film Laadlaa-54.
One would like to know what is so unique about this song. The answer is that this is the only song in Hindi film music history which is sung by the combination of these four great singers. They are Mohd. Rafi, Talat Mehmood, Shamshad Begum and Asha Bhonsle. As far as I know, It was for the first and last time that these four singers came together to sing a song. Mohd. Rafi features in few songs combining four singers, but not these our four singers. I am amazed how composer Vinod thought of this combination in the first place !

Today (24 march 2016) is Holi, the Indian festival of colours. This happens to be the eighth Holi festival for this blog.

In the year 2014 I had done a series called “Chaandni Raaten”. The series remained sort of incomplete, and now it is too far back to restart it. As is my practice, I give a list of all songs featuring in a particular series in the last song post, even that remained to be done. I had planned to post a few more songs, which were suggested and were suitable to the theme. But that was not to be. So I am posting here one of those songs as a closure. This song was found for me by one of the regular visitors to the blog ‘ blufire ji’, as I was looking for a Talat Mehmood song for the series.

It is a very special occasion for the blog but this special occasion escaped everyone’s attention. The reason could be that my manual score keeping gave me a different figure compared to the automatic count given by the blog. When I accidentally looked at the count on the right hand side of the blog, I found out that Asha Bhonsle’s count of songs in the blog stood at the round figure of 2000 !

In presenting this series, we are dealing with a very familiar era, when the radio was a prevalent medium and a big support to bring film songs to the listening public. More songs were heard, more songs got stored in the collective memory, and yes, compared to the earlier decades, a much larger percentage of films had their music released on gramophone records, and hence a much larger number of film songs are available. And yet, there are still a few films for which any audio or video material has not surfaced in the public domain. I will provide some statistics for 1961 and 1962, when I close the decade of 1962, three or four episodes hence.

Today’s song can be termed as a lovely melodious song from an unknown film, composed by a lesser known Music Director. It is from a religious film “Sati Priksha-57”, a “C” grade film with less known actors in the cast. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and chorus and it is composed by Music Director Sanmukh Babu Upadhyaya.
