As I am checking the list of songs from 1976, I find this gem of a ‘naat’ (Islamic religious song) rendered by Rafi Sb. The film is ‘Sangraam’, directed by Harmesh Malhotra. The words are written by Gauhar Kanpuri and the music is by Bhappi Lahiri. ‘Sangraam’ is a film that is not in memory otherwise. The films that I remember from that year are ‘Chitchor’, ‘Hera Pheri’ and ‘Chalte Chalte’. And yes, ‘Fakiraa’ and ‘Dus Numbri’. I remember I had seen ‘Chitchor’ and ‘Hera Pheri’ on the big screen.

Today (26 august 2014) is the second death anniversary of A K Hangal (1 febraury 1914-26 august 2012). On this occasion, here is a song from “Hamkadam” (1980). This movie was directed by Anil Ganguly for Rajshree Productions. “Baazaar Band Karo” (1974), though a recent movie by the standards of this blog was a movie I knew nothing about when I lived through 1974. This obscure movie was produced and directed by B R Ishara who had the reputation of making sleazy movies meant to titillate, if movie reviewers of Hindi magazines that I read were to be believed.
