Barsaat Ki Raat (1960) – just take away everything else, all the story, the screenplay, the characters, the histrionics, all the songs and music, and on screen plays, just take it all away, and leave just the three qawwaalis, and the greatness of this film will not be dimmed one bit. The three qawwaalis are the epitome of what this music and art form is all about. The first in the sequence, Nigaah e naaz ke maaron ka haal kyaa hogaa was discussed yesterday. The third, and the best known iconic qawwali of the three, Na to kaarwaan ki talaash hai…ye ishq ishq hai(Barsaat ki raat) has been discussed almost a little over three years ago, and then recently updated to its complete form. We are now left with the second offering in sequence, which is the subject of this post.

“Nayaa Kaanoon” (1965) was a movie starring an over the hill Bharat Bhushan with Vyjyanti Mala. This movie was a box office disasater.

As a result, the songs of this movie suffered. So much so that few people are aware of these songs. It is a pity because these songs are so nice to listen to, and they would have done well had the movie done better.

Here is a song from “Basant Bahaar” (1956) that I may have heard in the past but without paying much attention. This time, when I got the lyrics of this song (sent by nahm), I paid close attention to the lyrics. While doing that , one cannot but help pay attention to the singing and the music as well. I have so far discussed over 4100 songs in this blog, and I still feel that I have only scratched the surface. There are still tens of thousands of great songs that belong here. In fact, many well known songs are yet to figure in this blog. Hopefully, with time, all the missing songs will also appear here.

I have recently come across a song from a movie called “Daanaa Paani” (1953). Hardly any information is available about this movie and the brief information available about this movie is faithfully reproduced in all sites. The information being, this movie had Bharat Bhushan, Meena Kumari and Shashi Kapoor in it. When one does maths, Shashi Kapoor must be all of 14 years old at the time this movie was released. So it is not as if he was carrying the movie on his shoulders.
