‘Mitr, My Friend’ (2002) was an English language film which was directed by debutant, Revathy who also produced the film along with her husband, Suresh Menon. The main cast included Shobana, Nasir Abdullah and Preeti Vissa with the supporting cast of Matt Phillips, Black Ormsby, Shirley Bannet, Brain Linebaugh, Janine Pibal, Michael Bailey, Sreenivasan, Karthik etc. The film is known for having primarily all woman crew, which according to Revathy, was a mere coincidence. Also, they were first timers associated with a feature film.

‘Sitam’ (1991) was produced by Vikram Makandar (Vikram, the actor) who also wrote the story. The film was directed by the then husband-wife duo – Aruna-Vikas. The cast included Naseeruddin Shah, Smita Patil, Vikram, Arun Sarnaik, Keith Stevenson, Sulabha Deshpande, Manju Asrani, Vikas Desai, Master Hith (Aruna-Vikas’s son) etc. The film is said to be based on a real-life story which happened during a football match. In this post I am presenting a song composed by Bhupen Hazarika.

Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8th of September’1926 in Sadiya, Assam. He left this worldly place on 5th of November 2011.

(Gulzar Saab’s 90th birthday 18th August’2024)

Today 18th August, 2024 is the ninety-first birthday of Poet, Lyricist, Writer, Director and Producer Gulzar Saab. On this occasion we wish him a very ‘happy birthday’ today and also wish him a healthy and peaceful life ahead.

Gulzar was born as Sampooran Singh Kalra on 18th August’1934 at Dina, District Jhelum, in Punjab which is now in Pakistan. Their family shifted to Delhi (Old Delhi) after partition. Hullo Atuldom

Like they say in some sponsored programs, I shall also say:- today’s song has been selected with the help of my daughter who is known as Peevesie to the followers of the blog. She is the one who pointed out that the director of the film (Paheli 2005) from which today’s song is, was someone who tried his hand at films which didn’t have the regular run-of-the-mill stories.
